I have a NKJV PSQ with coffee stains in Isaiah and water stains on the edge that discolored the gilding. I also used zebra mildliners for underlining because I like different colors for different verses. I find the most beautiful bibles are the ones that are beat up and worn because they are full of use and show someone who has consumed the word.

Getting my first schuyler bible, and i just want to come here to remind all of us (including myself as im watching it). We all dont want to 'ruin' an expensive bible. But when our bible is passed down to our sons or daughters. What is better, a brand new looking bible in good condition, or a well used, beat up noted in and highlighted bible that your own father or mother owned. I'd personally rather receive the latter, every time. That may be hard for us. But just like when God created us, and such as within the love we have for our spouses, there is unfathomable beauty in the imperfections of one another, perfect imperfections.

I have had my Cambridge since 2012.... I took it to church ONCE... and then I shelved it.... I think it is a well made bible and the print is bold and dark... but it is only about a 7.0 font I believe .maybe even a 6,5 font... .. and really too difficult even with the bold print and line matched for me to read in church without my peepers... AND I prefer Study bibles anyway.. to take to church... I like to compare what the pastor is preaching to see if it lines up with others thoughts... on certain passages...

Those markers are great. I use the 05 for underlining and the 005 for writing and underlining in the notes section since the text is much smaller than the verses font. My Rock of Ages study Bible is my workhorse, so I might just not mark up my Canterbury when it gets here.. We'll see if I can resist underlining, I definitely won't be using a highlighter in it

Thank you so much for the tips and for reminding us to ignore the mistakes, but also how to deal with this new paper thickness in the Schuylers. I try to tell myself the errors will show me character and those working moments! I have used the Mr Pen bible highlighters - not too waxy nor are they sticky either. I found some Sharpie Gel highlighters at a Lifeway store once. They are not liquid at all. The gel doesn't bleed through at all in the cheaper Bibles I've used it, but it does show through a little. But that paper is really thin. I don't have a premium Bible yet. I just ordered my first today, a Treveris. I don't think I'll ever bring myself to highlight in it. Maybe a pencil and some underlines someday. lol

Those Pigma Micron pens sure are tough to best! I use them nearly exclusively in all of my Bible writing and underlining. Right now I have an Crossway ESV wide-margin in black top-grain and an older In Touch NASB note takers in black calfskin as far as premiums. As soon as I can I'm ordering the new NASB Quentel full-yapp from Schuyler! So exciting! Stunningly beautiful and so well made in my opinion! I did watch your video about your Canterbury full-yapp. If and when are you going to do a follow up for it? Great videos and reviews by the way! May God bless and keep you! (Edit) Could you please do more about how thick the leather covers are and how they compare with others as far as texture, feel, softness etc? It seems no one does that to any great extent. Thank you for all that you do!

I actually haven’t used the Full Yapp too much. When they came out with the regular yapp, 28 gsm, red letter - I got that one as well and been using it. @@faithtowalkministries132 I completely understand getting a new one and end up using it more. I've done that myself many times. I got a good chuckle out of that! I really do appreciate that you're taking into consideration my suggestion for going more in depth about the leather. I know that several aspects of it can be a deciding factor for some. I know it certainly is for myself. For example the leather on my In Touch was like velvet, really thick, and very supple whereas the Crossway was thin, just as flexible, and has a different texture. Both are very nice just different. Anyway I hope the idea helps a lot in your growth! Thank you so much for taking the time to respond!

Good video. This 28gsm paper handles writing pretty good. Just excellent paper. By the way my Cambridge Turquoise goatskin brown has become my main on the go Bible. Just the easiest Bible for me to read in a wide variety of settings. That said I love my Canterbury marbled mahogany calfskin so much I bought a back up in black goatskin. I like to use Canterbury at my desk and when following sermons. For those who would rather use a pencil instead of a pen I have some additional recommendations as I have used a pencil for writing in a Bible for about 30 years: - Use a mechanical pencil of 0.5mm or higher. - I like Pentel pencils because the small eraser works great in Bibles due to its precision. And I can erase with no harm to Bible paper. My favorite pencil for Bibles is the Pentel Kerry 0.5mm. - Instead of using the standard HB lead, go for a softer lead as it will glide on the page much easier with little pressure. But when using a softer lead spend more money and get a higher quality lead that is smear resistant. I use 0.5mm Pentel Ain Stein 2B lead. I like pencils because I can easily fix my mistakes, lasts as long as ink, just as easy to read as ink if using 2B lead, has a little less show through, better for sketching, and deemphasizes my words vs. ink of God's words.

Very good points. I’ll have to look those up and give them a try someday. My thought (and it may be incorrect) is that pencils would fade with time where pens would not. Please share your experience on the longevity of the pencil notes. Thanks! Also, thank you for taking the time to comment!

@snowpuppy77
@snowpuppy77 3 жыл бұрын
@@faithtowalkministries132 Arguably ink has more longevity on paper. However all ink fades over time as the paper dries out. Do a search "does ink fade on paper". Pencil on the other hand does not fade but can suffer from smearing. Over time with excess use and rubbing the pencil graphic can smear or rub off like an eraser does. Still readable but with more difficulty. But in storage pencil writing can be over 100 years old or more and show no signs of deterioration. Even looking freshly written. I have a Bible that is over 25 years old and I just looked at the pencil writing in it and it looks just fine with no smearing. My other Bibles look good with rare smearing with use. But in my case the smearing I see has little impact on legibility. Either way it is a compromise. It is good to buy better quality lead that is smear resistant. That is how I was able to go to a softer lead and still not have any significant smearing issues. Softer lead being darker on paper with less pressure which is nice with Bible paper. But standard HB lead works fine also as my 25 year old Bible shows. There is a company called Jet Pens that has lots of information on this. They would be glad to help you select a mechanical pencil and a pencil lead.

@@cycletrade2276 If you have the money I think you would really like the Canterbury. Not sure if it would displace your use of the Turquoise but will at least be a good compliment. The subject headings of the Canterbury are very nice and helpful when you are doing here a little and there a little reading. I would say Turquoise is more of a preaching Bible while the Canterbury is more of a reader that is still good for preaching. Canterbury has more words per line. And the layout is especially beautiful when seen in person. Note that my Mahogany Calfskin cover on my Canterbury does look somewhat different than the picture. The picture makes it look like you will be able to feel all that rough grain. In reality the cover is very smooth. When you see the rougher grain the texture of it can be felt some but still basically smooth. Not a complaint from my perspective. I like how the cover feels in the hand. The cover seems tough and does not scratch easily but if you indent it with a nail from your finger you can make it show. I personally like the Marbled Mahogany calfskin. Smells great and looks especially nice when opened. Looks like saddle back leather on the edges when opened. And the brown outside ribbons with the gold center ribbon is such a nice touch. It is like the Bible is rustic and beautiful at the same time.

good point regarding underlining... I am Not sure if my Schuyler will be my workhorse bible for just the reasons of things that Can go wrong like you have demonstrated... One thing I have Never done is used a ruler when underlining.. I probably should have.. because occasionally some of the underlining has ran into the words in the bible.. and its definitely not as even as your lines are.. but when I am reading God s word.. and I feel prompted.. to underline.. I am not sure if I want to stop and be so precise...I don t mind flaws like that here and there.. I make in my bibles that cost less than 60 dollars... I still haven t written in my Cambridge which cost about 80. dollars...I think I would be nervous about taking a Schuler or Allan bible to church. . One time I bought a brand new Zondervan study bible to church.. I only had it out of the Box for about an hour. and a fellow believer took it out of my hands to look at it.. and scratched the gold gilding.......on the edge.. with his fingernail... that was a shock.. and that bible only cost about 70 dollars.. I always buy Genuine leather or better...

good point about using a pencil.. but I would only use a #2 soft lead pencil... and I worry about the graphite eventually smudging over the years.. I purchased a used bible from the 1940 s on e bay a while back and the person had used a pencil in it for note taking.. even on notebook paper.. it was a loose binding.. Wilson bible I believe.. so every other page or had a sheet of notebook paper.. inserted ..but their comments were so smudged.. I could not read them much... One point we all need to consider especially on these high end bibles.. they will last several generations.. what we write in our bibles will become a Legacy unto our descendants.. or whichever hands they fall in.. It s nice to know that what God layed upon our hearts today.. may stir hearts in the future.. unreadable notes won t do this however...
