Well you see, when he worked for the government he actually signed up for a cloning program, and so he made a clone who would do writing videos. I dunno why, but I'm here now

I made what would be considered a predator monster for my d&d game. it's biggest strength is also it's biggest weakness. It's basically a Ambush predator that uses shadows to attack, both physically and figuratively. It will attack from shows usually by teleporting into someones shadow and attacking them from behind, trying to trip them and gore them with it's horns. while in shadows it's also semi tangible (mechanics wise there is a 50%chance an attack on it will just go threw it). if it feels it might be in danger it will teleport to some other shadow and wait for a chance to attack again. the reason this is also it's weakness is because if it's forced into an area of bright light it can't more around as well, not being able to teleport, it's not longer stealth and basically a tall thin, horned humanoid that doesn't have eye

A lot of people due to D&D use and see monsters as mere obstacles rather than creatures that fill a role in a setting / world. All creatures in a setting should exist for a reason, and so long as you have a reason you'll be off to a good start when creating monsters.

I build monsters for my dnd campaign and its really cool seeing the different types you covered vs what I've made. Monster as predator isn't easy to implement but it is easily my favorite kind to make!

warhammer fantasy mentioned raaaaah wtf is a broad fandom edit: I meant in a way that this is the first time I'm seeing someone bringing up warhammer fantasy in worldbuilding, it feels like I'm talking to a friend because I have all the 2nd edition supplements and I've lost count of how many times I read those books to get some inspiration

It's such a good setting to draw examples from because it's done so many things, and with a lot more consideration than one might expect!

Why do you keep using Trench Crusade minis when you never mention it?
@J-Bat

None of the mins shown or content of the video otherwise involves Trench Crusade, I only used it for the thumbnail. I also credit the artist in the description. I'm not sure what you mean otherwise.

Critique... This is an interesting and entertaining video, but not titularly, or opening claim- fulfilling. This is not a video on HOW to make monsters scary, nor is it applicable to any medium desired, such as for a novel or D&D campaign, etc. This isn't about worldbuilding either. "How to" videos (and such) are a step-by-step process to achieve a specific goal, not siting a laundry-list of previous topical examples. Examples are a "what" that reenforce the "how", not the how itself. Again, this is an entertaining and well-made video, but not a video that fulfills its claim. Maybe if you restructured it, then it may have been, but as is... it fails at its claims. Good luck with the channel.

I see where you're coming from, but I disagree on step-by-step processes being the desired structure for a video on writing. It might be a little difficult to explain what I mean, but I find relying on step-by-step processes results in poor imitations rather than one developing their own ideas. I'd rather talk in examples and concepts relative to certain points (design as an example here) where in seeing something that works, the viewer might consider why it works, and thus have a better outcome than just having a series of steps to follow. I can't swear to whether it is more or less effective, but the step by step method never did much for me. Thank you for the input though. Even if I don't necessarily share your view on the subject, you've still given me something to think about.
@MarkLewis...
@MarkLewis... 3 күн бұрын
@@J-Bat Respectfully.... everything you've learned was accomplished by a "how to" method, (reading, writing, science, etc.) then reenforced by example. You believe in the example more so, because that's when the step-by-step instructions took hold. Step-by-step instructions and examples by themselves are weak but together are much more graspable. Tell someone, then show someone and they grasp it much quicker than just either one of them. But... you do you. Thanks for the response.
