Damn. As a Russian I really felt this game - most of the Russian porches look so unnerving and hostlie at night, especially if you live on higher floors (say, 6th floor and higher). In addition to that, it's completely possible to live 5 and even 10 years and still don't know any names of your neighbours (I certainly don't, it's a miracle if I even find one when I'm exiting or entering the porch). And I live in a 5 floor house with no elevator, imagine if you live in 25+ floors buildings (we call such houses "ant house") - the amount of times you see a familiar neighbour face you can count on the fingers of one hand.

Funny. I'm from Brazil and we also call tall residential buildings "ant houses". And I agree 100% with you. Those modernist constructions have an eerie vibe.
