Hi Dave we all make mistakes, I have made a few over the years that took more time to rectify than do in the first place. Keep up the good work.

Clive, I know where your coming from on the household chores front 😉 I really enjoy doing Jobs around the garage but some days it‘s hard to push yourself to get started even more so on a cold day in the winter. That really takes some serious mojo and drive to get yourself out of a nice arm house and comfy chair 🤔Cheers Dave

Dave shit happens. I painted a hardtop for a series 3 E which turned out spectacular, but working on the boot lid for my series 3 I burned through the clear and had to redo again. As you say its got to be done right. I'm expecting delivery of my Jaguar 5 speed today so I'm excited. it sucks getting old I'm 66 and feeling polishing out that hardtop. Cheers and take care of that back John

Hi Dave, it's a good fit as is. Why not tig weld or neatly MIG weld it to stop water ingress. Once the body sealer is on you won't even see it.

Paul, I agree we could easily do that but it will be on my mind and just bug the shit out of mr every time I look at the shell. Cheers Dave

Braze or solder the lap joints to avoid the possibility of water entrance? Looks very good to take apart.

I have spoken to a few friends that are Mini guys and there basically saying the same thing 🤔 Cheers Dave

Marine sealant adhesive like 3M 520 or Sikaflex is incredibly strong,and flexible once cured. Or maybe more modern 2 pack stuff would work even better. Bare metal and careful trowelling of the goop. Welding or brazing ? Oof. Keep your options open and good luck. No really good answers here.@ClassicCarCave
@ClassicCarCave2 ай бұрын
Paul, The problem is it will need to be corrected as it will bug the shit out of me till it is fitted the right way. Cheers Dave
@paulmanson2532 ай бұрын
@ClassicCarCave In that case,there is only one way forward. Obtain replacement panel(s),rip the offending bits out,repair the bent bits,reweld as per specification, and carry on with the next steps. Been there done that myself. Usually talk myself into an acceptable Plan B. But not always. Either it is right or it isn't. Spend the time and get it just so. All the best.
@ClassicCarCave2 ай бұрын
Paul. If we are careful we should be able to salvage this panel and then refit it. I have had a few friends that suggested just weld & seam seal 🤔Cheers Dave
