Nah- did over 3500 km (2200 miles), all kinds of Canadian weather, the v12 HT is my 3rd wheel (I also have the OG Sherman second batch and the kingson 18XL) the V12 is my dail driver. Reliable, powerful ( I weigh 220 lbs, 95 kg BEFORE gear), it is fast (make sure to go into settings to unlock the extra 10km/h- max will be 60 km/h) I love this wheel, great build quality, superb screen, love the mudguard and trolley. Make sure to turn on before charging- no spark. Highly recommend the v12 HT. my Shermie is for special rides, long ones... Btw, my range is ~ 75 km (47 miles), the remaining 10 km is slow riding lol

I still really doubt that wheel without passive cell ballancing can do 50 000 km like V11 or any significant amount of cycles. The cheap BMS can do this, why not expensive EUC? Mechanics I spoke about that agreed with me. Anyway I am very satisfied with my V12HT, with 36PSI, in summer I did 65km and still 20% battery left and I climbed 700m in total (500m descent)... With winter clothes, low tire pressure, low temp, sure it can be much worse. BTW do not use low tire pressure or the stem valve will be gone. V12HT is very well built (much better than Kingsong or Begode), waterproof and overall finished product with great mudguard. Speed is good enough for me, torque is amazing. During 2000 km it never failed on me during the ride. I really love this wheel, it is all I need - great range, great speed, great power, great ride onroad or offroad, great built quality, kickstand, display and features. In my eyes this wheel is perfect :). Zero maintenance, just charge, pump the tire and ride.

@@oisinogorman35 That's funny - when it is raining very hard I am using my Begode Tesla T3 :D. I ran to few light rains with V12HT with no problem. I think it is sealed pretty well, but I heard about some water ingress to the display and also bad sealing of the controller (it has cooler inside of the wheel). But it was probably bad QC only, this wheel has pretty good IP rating in the end. But I haven't disasemble mine so I just hope it is fine inside :D. At least I have no issues.

Almost 6000km on my v12HT and I love it. I get 80km range (warm Australian weather) so the cold is definitely a factor for you. The stand works great when YOU EXTEND IT PROPERLY. You don't mention that the screen is fantastic and you don't need to connect an app to use most functions, which is a HUGE bonus. Excellent trolley handle, very slim and compact makes taking on a train very easy as opposed to huge wheels like the Begode Master. You complain about top speed and torque but this wheel isn't designed to be the fastest and torque-iest, horses for courses. I generally like your reviews but I feel you went into this with a negative attitude and that affected the outcome massively.

Simple facts from my point of view after 2000 km: - no single cut off, - I never charge to 100% - no single problem with that, - who cares about sparks when you connect the charger - simple do it in the opposite way as you mention and there is no problem, - who cares about climbing 35-40% hill - no one because it is simply dangerous and has nothing in common with the wheel performance, - I have completely no problems with turning on this tire - what more is this the best wheel that I ride (BTW the S20 was a nightmare in this area), - the kickstand has a weak point when I use it on the train but in different situations - no issues. I know many users who love this wheel. This is also the first wheel that I'm going to use much longer than others. I really feel the idea of your video was to maximize the destruction of this wheel. You have forgotten about many positive sides of this wheel. You focused on issues that in practice can be omitted because normal riders do not have such problems. Many sarcastic comments have proved your general idea for this video. It is sad because in that way you lose your objectivity, which I had liked.

For this reason I think some of the problems may be to do with some of the selectable options being buggy and causing issues either individually or together with another option. In particular the Assistance Balance seems to produce some strange behaviour, and the NonMotor Load option..that works as an automatic spin kill button..and cuts power if it detects the wheel is not on the ground. I have both of these off!
@ChrisH0Y
@ChrisH0Y Жыл бұрын
@@martinsaunders2942 Interesting. It reminds me of troubleshooting software issues in the old mac computers. The OS had different "extensions" which on their own, ran their tasks fine, but if additional extensions with different features (sometimes added by new updates or different software) were added, conflict bugs or even a computer freeze/crash would result. The more complex the software, the more potential the bugs if the code is not written by experienced hands. That's likely why Gotway/Begode wheels don't have these problems (simple soft/firmware). The V12 HT that Adam had really could of been an "imposter", corrupt code from within which lead to an acceleration crash.

Capacitors are empty (or the energy in them is decreasing) when the EUC is off. They are full when the EUC is on. So if you plug a live charger to the charge port when the EUC is off (especially when it is off for a while - depending on the electronics) you'll see/hear a spark because the electricity would fill the capacitors fast, causing a spark. This might be an issue if the components are not the best quality (capacitors might get old quicker or the charge port/cable tip could get smutty and lose conductivity). It would be wise to prevent this by plugging it while the EUC is on. Thank you for all your great videos, I've learned a lot from you brother.

My opinion: Preventative firmware for overheat risk forces that tilt back, or computer thinks battery is virtually dead. The never charging to 100% is a thing with the V13 due to manufacturer of battery cell having a recommendation that reduces a slight bit of voltage per cell, no clue why for V11 but I bet for some reason IM is limiting max charge.

It started beeping and throttling me back to 30MPH within the first 30 min of the ride with battery still above 80%. At mile 20 we stopped to eat and charge. I left with 68% battery life to finish the final 20 miles. After about 5 miles my battery dropped to 33% and it would not allow me to keep up with the group. From there it drained even faster. I finished our ride at very low speed. I think I'm going to sell this and upgrade. Solid starter wheel for sure.

Internal resistance is important as it varies by approximately %15 within a production batch unless batteries are well sorted. This difference is hard to balance as state of charge (think accumulated milliamp hours)ends up higher in a lower voltage cell with lower internal resistance. When bypassing a higher V cell ACTIVE balancing continues to raise the state of charge of the lower resistance cell as state of charge is not voltage and we work from the voltage reading. Another Key concept, capacity imbalance affects voltage difference less than charge imbalance making cell voltage as a poor measurement for capacity imbalance. While voltage deviation at high SOC is less imbalanced at low SOC (think discharged battery)the imbalance is higher so active balancing must be (i’m no battery expert) at the lower state of charge condition while passive balancing relies on charging to 100 percent and a good way to do this is slow charging from 98% to 100%. What to take away is that active balancing is not all that. No balancing algorithm can be affective against impedance mismatch. Also, capacity imbalance is not measured by voltage imbalance so if I understand what I have found written up in battery literature I would guess passive balancing is better than active as active is likely to do more damage ->> in capacity imbalance or impedance differences the cell voltage differences are not enough to base the balancing. Even more importantly consider that if active balancing is not working as the above indicates then the balancing will get worse and degrading will accelerate each time you charge especially if balancing occurs during charge and discharge the active balancing turns bypass on. Best active balancing charge, I read, is one where problems with balance are lessor if balancing only takes place at end of charge (as IR effects are less as current is lower meaning the internal resistance has less impact on battery voltage reading). Note that passive balancing takes place at the top end (SOC is about 95%). No balance needed IF …All the problems with balance can be avoided by not charging to more than 90% or discharging to too low such as min 10%.

I have a theory, I have a similar case when off-road riding this summer on v12hs. After being stressed and scared over my self-acceleration incident I investigated that I was riding with my kickstand down at the moment, a rock or a step, or even you breaking down the hill can make your wheel accelerate by pushing up the kickstand, it will not close from the force up because it's designed to rotate towards the tire. I double-check my kickstand when I ride now as it can come down from doing jumps or bouncing and shaking offroad and I never had this happen to me again, I understand that frustration when it feels like something is random, I thought it will start randomly accelerate every time I'm near a car or a child I really don't think it's software, but it can also be both... idk it can be a software issue for some and a kickstand issue for others too, who knows?

I was in contact with Adam and he wanted to use my testimony of the first fall as one of the cases he mentions here and I replied that I finally think mine was my own error. When it happened again ten days ago and some 7000 Km later I realized how wrong I was and I could have stopped riiding it then and saved myself from the injury. It was that bad phisically as I had all the gear on, but mentally it was devastating. Genuinely curious why people are afraid of small electric sparks. I'm assuming it's common knowledge that many regular outlets spark when plugged in and the likelihood of this causing damage to the contacts in the life cycle of the equipment is negligible. The only things that need measures to mitigate that spark are things like light switches due to the hundreds of thousands of times they will be switched in their lifetimes.

On cell balancing. I put 7k km on my inmotion v8, and started having aggressive shut downs at c.35pc battery. I went through the hassle of opening the battery, cell balancing manually and I'm back to a normal wheel, but the process was pretty involved and not fun. I had two pairs of cells that weren't the same voltage as the rest of the pack.

Weight at the rim | tire is effectively doubled due to angular inertia. When accelerating or braking, if the rim + tire is 1 kg heavier, the effect on acceleration or braking is like 2 kg of non-rotating mass. As for no passive balancing, I was wondering what the purpose of all the BMS wires are (21 of them on 84 volt packs, 25 on 100 volt packs), since that allows sensing the individual voltage of all the stuff in series, but your explanation of a voltage limiter makes sense. Any batteries or packs in parallel with self-balance over time during a charge, without having to charge to 100%. The 100% charge is only needed for voltage limiting logic in the series of wires from BMS to battery cells.

If you balance a battery pack so that all cells are at same voltage then you should not have to rebalance again for probably (if daily rider) for a couple weeks? Cells should discharge at same rate and even if not balanced it is the discharge that (on a unbalanced battery) is most damaging as lower V cells could drop below the recommended V. On higher side trickle charge is to prevent damage of highest V cells because of low current charging.
@baryton76
@baryton76 Жыл бұрын
Cells usually do not discharge at the same speed. The slowest one if there is the lack of balancing will be behind more and more from the rest of the pack.
@Astrotia
@Astrotia Жыл бұрын
You don't trickle lithium cells. The rate gets slow enough that it can't detect a full cell and it can end up overcharging. Typically you want to stay above 0.33C charge rate, lower and it gets hairy

One more thing regarding the lack of cell balancing feature. If there is true what you are saying that if one of the parallel set of batteries reach max voltage the wheel stop charging. That means that BMS has connected all the 24 parallel parts connected independently - why no cell balancing feature then? And still if lack of balancing is true - over time the maximum voltage has to decrease because some cells will be f.e. at 4,0V (3,9, etc) and others 4,2V - total voltage HAS to decrease over time. Mine wheel is charging after 2000km still to 100,3V like when it was new. It has to be lower if what you are saying is true. Ask someone with 6000 or more km if his total voltage drops. I really believe that this was only misunderstanding between you and some Inmotion employee with bad english :D.

Thank you for your opinion...honestly mean it! Your review stands in absolute contrast to Chooch and Hsiang who both recommend this as the one of the best wheels to be had. Hsaing even says that it has comparable torque to the MASTER (says it twice in his v12 vid). Where is the truth? Obviously you were not impressed by your testing but Chooch and Hsiang are big off-road and street experts, respectively, that disagree. The ghost acceleration issue is brand new...where is the evidence outside of hearsay? The V13 also has a voltage charge limiter. The port spark issue is avoided if you turn on the wheel before plugging in. Even Onewheel XRs (made in USA with smart BMS) can have "charging port spark". The solid center tire tread (hybrid style) is not perfect but is there to make the wheel more stable while people often complain about full parallel knobies also causing "traintracking." Chooch says he luvs the stock hybrid V12HT tire. As far as range goes this is a 16/17" wheel so by default it cant compete with big diameter wheels...the range kings such as Master Pro and V13 are also getting reports of less than half advertised range. If there are real ghosting or hardware issues then yes, InMotion should make a statement but given the attention of IM to safety in design and software on all their recent models, you cannot find a better EUC company. EDIT...please tell us why the acceleration ghost issue is software? THX

The master can tackle 45° inclines and V12 overpowers on 40°. Master takes 40° EZPZ. These are the numbers and facts. The V12 HT just has not much torque if you actually test it “to its limit” and not just “a feeling” Check out my other V12 HT vid regarding acceleration - I analyzed Chooches video and later (not in the video) I talked with 3 people that had somewhat similar experiences (still no video evidence from those 3 people but that is what Chooch’s video is for). We also have no denial nor approval of this from IM side. The port is some sort of bug, I think they can fix it easily. All manufacturers have issues…disbalanced packs, weak axles, breaking pedals, sometimes water ingress, those are some of InMotion’s issues.

@@mr_wrongway Fair enough... but these are the "numbers and facts" on your units. There are tons of scientific clinical studies on coffee and wine that contradict each others findings. 45 degrees is likely an exaggeration...but Electric Dreams has a v12ht doing 40 degrees with "no problem".

I don't recall either of those two doing repeated tests on the same inclines with multiple wheels. Or even doing hill tests at all for that matter. It's one thing to ride around on flat ground and think two wheels have similar feeling torque, it's a whole other thing to actually take the wheels up a hill and see where their limits are. Going to have to take Wrong Way's side on this one, seeing as he actually has them all on video on the same hills.

This JUST happened to me. The wheel would not turn off holding the kill switch or holding the power button. I had to lay it on the side to turn it off. Setting the wheel to default fixed the issue. What should I do? I have a HS with the new driver board. I was not on the wheel. It started tilting back slowly and the wheel started accelerating. I had to tilt it back on the kickstand and it was free spinning over 60mph. The power button or the handle switch did not work. I put the wheel on its side, afraid it was going to heat up and catch on fire. When I dropped it on the side, it stopped spinning. When I brought it upright, it did the same thing. I had to set the wheel to default to stop it. Now I am scared to ride this wheel. What am I gonna do.....They can at least let me trade it or something? I feel I have a paper weight now.

I sold my V12HT after one month because it was tilting the pedals +/-4 degrees randomly. Inmotion said they haven't found any problem (and are busy with V13) and will not fix it. Adding your story with self accelerating - I don't trust their software (they made it too complicated, a lot of options and smart/AI stuff) but who knows how Chinese programmers made the code/software architecture (to work stable like on airplanes). Other reasons I sold it: - too hard to push/start it - I don't feel the torque (my KS18L is easier to accelerate) - too heavy for me (daily lifting on 1-2 stairs) - too hard tire (my tube stem broke when I was riding with soft tire so I was forced to ride with hard tire to not get broken stem again and fall at speed) - too heavy top (the wheel feels awkward in turns and it's nose falls forward when I hit a pothole/bump then it accelerates abruptly for a fraction of second to keep the top vertically again) btw They haven't even fixed the glitches on V8: - the charger indicator never shows full battery when charging (last bar is always blinking); - the power button sometimes starts the wheel for a fraction of second then it shuts down, you have to press again a bit longer to start it (sometimes it starts with battery indicator showing half battery then it recovers to full when riding)

I think the EUC community is a too much forgiving community when it comes to safety issues from manufacturers. lets not forget Hooverboards where banned - here is why the superfly hooverboard was banned - I think it's a copy paste from what is happening with the V12 as we see in the review : "NPR. @Jake Penick yeah definitely a pro. Don't let him scare you away from Begode. They have a lot of choices out now and if you get a 100v wheel, you know it's good because they have fixed pretty much all the bugs. They are just as cheap as the V12 now too.

Just meh… they didn’t get a smart BMS in and still old style of axle :/ they had a lot of possibilities to improve the wheel but as far as I can see for now they didn’t do some of the most important upgrades to it

I had to stop at 7 min so I could ask. What happens at 100% charge? Does the charger trickle charge from there because trickle charge is way to balance as a slow charge brings all the cells to same voltage safely. This BMS does not allow that?
@kinkyshae

Exactly what happens. It dosent have "passive" but leaving it in for like 1-2hours past 100% allows for balancing

@@martinsaunders2942 I know, these EUC companies need to be way more specific and give out way more information, it's bullshit that we have to speculate what components we have such as battery type/motherboard versions. When ya buy a 3d printer or pretty much any other well known electronic you usually have stickers right on the machine telling you exactly whats inside/manufacturing date/firmwear version.

Thank you and it's a shame to hear InMotion has made not such a great wheel with the V12 HT. It certainly looks good and 100V / 16" seems like a recipe for goodness. I've had the same wheel tilts way before the battery is depleted issue with the Sherman Max, so InMontion isn't alone with that. It was, fingers crossed, resolved with a battery replacement. Heavy motor/wheels/tires are not good for zippiness, but they are good for momentum. I'll take zippiness, thanks. Even adding a bunch of slime can add a lot of rotational mass. Would the Begod T4 be a good alternative to the IM HT? It's 16", not much heavier and similarly priced. It may have "Begode quality" and I do agree that my Begodes are not pretty on the inside - but thus far, they have been reliable and a pleasure to ride - and no cutouts or "sudden unexplained acceleration" - ala Audi 5000.

Begode are awesome wheels. These guys are trying to give us all the details of worst case scenarios. If you don't abuse the hell out of it, a begode will take you as far and as fast as you want. Don't fast charge it every time you want to ride it, and don't ride through a lake or in a downpour. Most people that care about their 2-$4000 investment won't do these things anyway. Open the case every so often to make sure your hangers are still tight. You'll never know what all the fuss is about. Look up how many fires there have been compared to how many sales there were. Then, consider how many of those fires are guys who abused their wheels or just had a bad crash then never opened it up to inspect the batteries before charging. It's amazing how many people drop so much money on something so they can neglect and abuse it.

Hey Adam. I have a quick question and you are the only one I trust to answer it. Alien Rides just sent out an email about replacing a charge board on my begode master because apparently the charge board it came with does not properly balance the cells. Is this a major issue that I should be concerned with? My wheel reaches 134.2 volts in most cases. I have seen it reach 134.4 a time or two (EUC World). What is your suggestion? I appreciate any info you provide. Thanks man and keep up the great content. Always enjoyable to watch and learn
