From what I’ve heard they do that to keep insurance low so the gti will not be considered a luxury vehicle as opposed to the VW R which is highly more for insurance

@@thatsmyassbrostop a stage 1 does not make 300 horsepower. To make 300whp you need to go stage 2 with a turbo back, intake, intercooler, new spark plugs, coil packs, and a few other things that can be tune dependent. A stage 1 can get you to about 260whp at best. Most stage 3’s or 2+’s get you to 350-400 whp not respectfully. To make 400+ you need for sure a new turbo and for 500+ you need internals and meth injection. You will never get 300+ on stage 1 with a gti and that’s just life.

@@wolfaja755 It depends on the brand. Not all stages are created equal and totally depend on who’s making them. Stage 1 APR tunes are getting some people over 300 hp. I’ve seen as much as 315, even though APR claims a potential 330 or something. It’s because the stage 1 to stage 2 is really just jacking up the torque. Stage 2 with full bolt ons will probably push 320-330, depending on product choices.

My brother has a MK7 GTI with a Unitronic stage 2 and he walks New Mustangs and Challenger SRT8s daily but his is close to 400hp. I have a 2010 A3 2.0tsi DSG Sportback and I only have reliability mods currently(Graf metal waterpump, r8 coils,RS7 plugs) I am only doing suspension and maybe the Engine and tranny tune. I have only had it a month so I am getting everything sorted to how I want it, but It hurts feelings with its stock 200hp.

Just throwing this out there...the GTI from the factory is rated at 228, but most people seem to put down around 230WHP stock on 93 so VWs ratings seem quite conservative to say the least. A tuned GTI is quick, I'm honestly surprised the STi did as well as it did.

I have a 15 GTI autobahn with a IE intercooler and IE downpipe tuned with United Motorsports 93 octane tune 28 lbs of boost with a drop in filter. 364 whp and she's quick. I never drove a suby before but always admired their styling and sound. Great video, nice to see a very clear clean video without a bunch of nonsense.

I looked into it. 2k worth of upgrades to a mk7 gti you're looking at 300+ whp 330wtq+ easy. They dyno 220/260 give or take stock. STI dynos 260/250 give or take. For 2k you're looking at around 290whp 280 wtq. It's crazy they gains you get with that ea888. Will say on behalf of the Subaru, sound and AWD eat the GTIs lunch.

You not making 350whp with no is20 🤦🏾‍♂️. That’s past it’s efficiency range. Even if you were full e85 and meth you not net over 335whp and that’s with maximum fueling with a hpfp. Average is20 stage 2 is 295-315whp at most. Is38 do make 350+whp on tunes.

Plus stage 1 no intake just the ecu file from apr makes 327hp and 326 torque. I have a 2015 a3 that has the same engine as the gti(ea888 gen 3 is20 turbo) and the same dsg trans(dq250) and the quattro haldex from the s3 or golf r. Mine is 3300ish lbs with awd launch control. Waiting for my stage 2 tune with apr 337hp 339tq should run 4.2 to 60 and the quarter in around 12.5 seconds at around 111 or 112 mph. Mental and its a total sleeper

Love your videos man! I own an older 2014 GTI with an Apr tune. I didn’t realize how quick these cars are until I upgraded to a k04 and got a downpipe! Doesn’t sound nearly as nice as a WRX or STI but man it pulls.

The title says surprising result but that’s exactly what I expected as a former MK7 GTi stage 1 owner. STi is quick to like 70 but man it’s not geared for much after that, too close ratio. The GTi manual gearing is long as hell though, third gear was always the beast. Pulls from highway speed to Mexico speed I always found the STi to drop back noticeably.

Racer X need some advice. So I am on the fence between getting my base model 2017 GTI with 59K miles on the odometer modded, or purchasing a 2020 or 2021 new WRX. I would probably get a Premium trim. I am leaning towards newer route as I feel strange modding a car that I will more than likely replace in 3 years? Is the Subaru WRX 2020 or 2021 a good year for these subies? I have heard they are not reliable but this could be do to a previous owners which in new would not be a factor. Thanks for anyone's comments.

I got a bone stock mk7.5 GTI 6mt and ran into an sti on the freeway and was sincerely surprised at just how slowly he did pull on me. I was expecting to get gapped, but it wasn't so. He was definitely faster, but not by much. Yeah, that dsg is no joke. Don't care how fast you think you can shift, you can't shift that fast.

I know you probably don’t want to void your warranty, since the car is pretty new, but I would still buy a Cobb access port when you can, if nothing else but to be able to read all your vitals and make sure you nip problems in the bud before they get severe. Plus you could always throw the stock tune back on when you take it to the dealership if you tune it. You’ll have flat foot shift and launch mode as well.

I’ve had an 08 STI Stage 2 tuned and an 18 GTI with a Ma performance tune with the cobb accessport, both great cars! The VW definitely seemed a little more refined though. I live in Massachusetts so awd is definitely a plus! I’d say overall i liked my STI better because it always had traction. The GTI would spin anytime under 30-40mph and it was very annoying. I also had a 6sp Golf Alltrack with an APR tune and i probably liked that better than the other 2. Definitely not as fast but had much more room. I wish i kept it and put an is38(golf r) turbo in it.

Not surprised at all lol This was a fun race! I have an 18 audi S3 which has the same engine as the Golf R , and I am tuned stage 2 with 034 motorsports . I absolutely love it! Im right at 400 HP and 420 TQ, running 11.9 quarter mile, 0-60 in 3.9 sec. It's the best daily driver/ race car combo. I have not lost a race yet on the street....beat new mustang 5.0s, Camaro SS, challenger R/T, and a scat pack 392 as well .

That GTI has a Unitronic tune which is a more conservative tune for the MK7 platform. Had that GTI had a more aggressive tune from GIAC, EQT or 5150 it would give a FBO STI a hard time.

It's more than just the DSG bud. The EA888 makes a ton of torque and they make a lot of power while also not weighing about 400lbs less. The mechanical AWD system of the STI is going to cause more drive train loss while also adding weight. You gain an advantage off the line and in sketchy conditions but there is always a trade-off. Mighty Car Mods had a sub 3 second 0-60 Golf R and now they are working with a RS3 which is even faster.

My stage 1 tuned mk6 GLI pulls on Subies ALL DAY. When you’re pushing 255 whp and 290ish torque in a wide curve in the rev range, in a car that weighs in at just under 3200 lbs, you can gap quite a few “supppsedly” fast contenders..

STI needs a down pipe and tune and you’ll be happy. Honestly these cars if you upgrade the fuel system and open up the down pipe you’ll be very happy with the power. Also a pitch stop mount makes a huge difference in shifting for not a lot of money.

Knew before I even clicked the video the GTI would have walked the STI lol anyone that knows about 4 cyl turbo platforms knows that gti/R’s are top dogs. Also, catback exhausts don’t add any horsepower.. The GTI stage 1 makes more horsepower than a stock STI stage 2 forget about it lol the STI would need to get a bigger turbo.

You need to get some "GO" to match the "SHOW" on your WRX STI. Hey .. those V-Dubs are quick. My buddy has a R and it is an all-wheel drive rocket. He has surprised a lot of better known German cars ... in Mexico, of course. BTW ... he LOVES riding in my B5 Blue Challenger SRT 392 just because it's completely different from his R. He simply calls the Challenger, "The Big Blue Car."
