Interesting hearing Godfather referencing wondering before the semi-finals "how am I gonna fight Butterbean" as if everyone knew ahead of time Butterbean was the fight the Brawl For All winner would get. The story we've heard for years is Butterbean was thought of after the tournament was over as a way of burying Bart Gunn for being the unexpected/unwanted winner.

It seems like the majority of wrestling personalities are trying to rewrite history a little bit as if people didn´t find the brawl for all entertaining but all of my friends at school that watched wrestling at the time loved it, I remember we were always pumped up about it and ratings were good, if they weren´t then they wouldn´t have kept doing the brawl for all so obviously people were watching it, it was something different, cool

Instead of actually giving Bart the push needed, Jim Ross found a way to destroy Bart's career. They literally hired Butterbean a boxer who did the tough man competitions for a living and asked Bart to change his style some weeks before the match. Talk about intentional sabotage. The company even implied they would hire Butterbean if he won, which they didn't. Effectively he was just brought in to wipe out Bart Gunn.

Even that would’ve been bad to happen. Let’s say Godfather did end up as the winner that leaves the contest as a joke still. How do you crown a guy as the winner when he lost his first fight and only got back in because the guy he lost too withdrew saying he didn’t have anything to prove. The entire thing was such an ill-conceived bumblefuck that even if it had worked as planned was a crap idea. How do you have a tournament where you say “this thing here is actually real unlike all the other stuff we’ve been having you pay us for”? Every aspect of this thing was stupid.

What godfather means friend is old in body and not necessarily in age in the traditional way. If you consider not just the damage he took in Japan as our other friend indicated here above but also his time as a 4 time division 1 collegian wrestler and 4 years as an all American collegian football player for the Oklahoma Sooners then the age of 38 is actually very old and he was very old in athletic terminology. 38 is old for someone who's used their body in such a way. It's an athlete thing or anyone who's lived a psychically grueling life kind of thing. You a athlete Jason? That's why I think the death of dr. Death is overrated subject he was almost done anyway.
@jasonbaylis4604
@jasonbaylis4604 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheRealDerekL I grew up in Shreveport, mid south wrestling country, so I know all about Dr. Death Steve Williams, and his very extensive background. Besides JYD, he's probably the biggest star people talk about here that came from down here. He actually moved back here after not long after the brawl for all was over. I believe he ended up moving to Nebraska or somewhere before he died. Here is where Godfather put things in the wrong context and this is what no one talks about for whatever reason. Steve tore his right hamstring ( a very common injury among athletes) at some point during the quarter finals fight against Bart. That's what slowed him down and why he could barely move. His "age" played no factor. Because in the context godfather put it, steve would've been a 18 year old (if you go back 20 years) tough guy in high school which would've been long before he got in to wrestling, and long before he did everything you mentioned. When the truth was and what I said initially, he was a tough guy once he was IN the business. Did his football and amateur background have a lot to do with that? Absolutely. But Godfather was talking about him in age terms as far as a "Years old". That's what triggered my reply.
@TheRealDerekL
@TheRealDerekL 3 жыл бұрын
@@jasonbaylis4604 @Jason Baylis I get what your saying and you definitely know background on Steve. Right on, Shreveport! What I'm saying is I think you didn't understand the context godfather was putting it in, meaning he's not saying Steve was so much older than him in actual years or that the number of years between them or that Steve's extra years senior to him played a factor, he was referring to his age as an athlete in relation to Steve's career. So 38 is old in athlete years. Godfather speaks to the years of damage in his sports background played a factor in his loss. In that we said the same thing. Right on though man all gravey.

I totally agree with you and I love the rough and tuff style , Mike rutundo in late 80s before irs gimmick was just as good style and tuffness as the Steiner's or Kurt Angle , Terry Gordy I had to do alot of research to know his career but yeah those guys you said are tuff as nails , Dan Severn especially

@thewelshviper Youre absolutely right, but I disagree about scorpio, they had an infamous incident in S.Korea where Hawk laughed after Scorpio punched him, bc he said his punch was so weak he thought it was a rib.
@seacbareid1985

@thewelshviper Neither Steiner were there, the "fight" happened on the tarmac of the airport. I've personally spoken to six of the people that were there. Even if that were the narrative, how do you reconcile in your head that a larger man has to "try" to stop a smaller man from punching him by holding. Rick Steiner was one of those whose said Hawk was one of the toughest men in pro wrestling. No one believes scorpio won but scorpio fans.

@thewelshviper Besides Hawk, I've heard it from Mike Tenay, Scott Norton, Hiroshi Hase, Yuji Nagata, and Osamu Matsuda (El Samurai). The "bus" angle negates it all. Because Hawk was not even on the bus. He rode with Flair, which was the whole crux of it. After getting off the plane, there was only one limo provided for talent, and only one seat left. Hawk knew that Flair knew and liked him better than the rest of the talent, and said "I guess we know who will be riding with Flair.." as a joke. Scorpio, for whatever reason, who WAS riding the bus, said "Man, why dont you get off his d-ck?" to which Mike asked him "WTF did you just say"? dropping his bag. Scorpio suckerpunched him..at which point Mike said he thought it a rib bc it was so weak, but grabbed him by his throat with both hands and held him at arms length. Mike being the taller, and stronger of the two, Scorpio could do nothing but swing wildly, and Mike said "Is that the best (or "all", depending on the telling) you got?" and, again, do you wanna settle this now or later?" and then the frightened MPs on the tarmac cocked their weapons, so both stopped. The next night, they were having dinner, and were served with stainless steel chopsticks, and Flair being Flair, seated them next to each other, bc everyone on the trip (with the execption of the Steiners and Norton-of the Americans) was afraid of Hawk and his temper. Scorpio was noticeably and allegedly humorously afraid and shaking and Mike saw him trying to tape the two chopsticks together, he took them from him, laughed and said "Youre not going to need those! I love ya, you lil n*gger, youve got heart". That was the extent of their "fight". I've also heard Flairs telling (over the phone) but dont believe much of what Flair says.
