I like Jack Ma. Facing a foreign audience and speaking in a language other than his mother tongue, he came across as completely comfortable in his own skin. He knows what he wants, how to get what he wants and how to stay ahead in the game. I admire his vision and foresight, and his long-term plans far into the future. For someone of his stature and his clout, it's inevitable that Jack Ma will also have to work for and work with the state. While he cautions others that it's okay to fall in love with the government but not to marry the government, Jack Ma himself could not have survived the cut-throat competition in China without being in bed with the government in one way or another. All big businesses do, in China or the US or elsewhere. When Jack Ma says he's very interested in Hollywood, I cannot help but sense that this is also part of Jack Ma and China's long-term plan to increase their country's softpower in the international arena. Admittedly, this is an area where China lags behind the US. Movies are one way to carry out propaganda and shape international opinion. The US has done this rather successfully since the days of Frank Capra and China can learn a thing or two from the US. Taking a page out of the American playbook, China might even beat the US at its own game one day. For now at least, Jack Ma is right to focus on the long-term development of China's movie industry instead of rushing into profitable but short-term Ali-flicks, Ali-sequels or Ali-blockbusters. As China's cinematic industry grows by leaps and bounds, it wouldn't hurt to learn the art of being subtle and subliminal from Hollywood. I wish Jack Ma all the success and hope China becomes a benevolent superpower in a multipolar world.

This interviewer is quite incompetent, trying to provoke Jack Ma emotions with silly political questions without asking the right questions to begin with, but Jack answered them quite honest and very well in fact, but adds nothing to why Jack Ma is there, that is to talk business.

@@maryammowahedi2054 I Totally agree , This interviewer is such a waste of time and the way of asking questions is really weird and not acceptable to all . Jack Ma as always nailed it all the time he is the best . This interviewer I would rate as Zero never ever give him a chance to interview unless he learn how to interview an iconic entrepreneur like Jack Ma

Jack, I know I've only met you a couple times but, you've become my mentor. I gain much wisdom when I view these videos with you speaking. I still desire my next and last, wife to be from China. Damn, the interviewer had a couple of good seconds but for the most part mucked it all up. There was so much that COULD have come out of this interchange that did not come out. Also, the people standing to ask a question were supposed to identify themselves... I'll bet you $10,000.00 right now, done in China the audience would have at least been able to get that part right. WSJ... that's it? Crap.

Daisy Wang Agreed. The host is putting Jack in an awkward situation where he might offend anyone without any form of intention. And really thank God that Jack English is good and able to use mostly correct words to prevent a bad situation from happening. I mean u know , if u are a businessman u will not really touch much on politics, People like Jack Ma are good hearted person. Tbh I think Jack is trying to create better relationship between China and USA by improving US exports to china back by chinese consumer. Chinese consumer are getting richer, the era of just exporting is shifting. Chinese consumers have wants back by purchasing power. They are looking for goods overseas that is not obtainable in china. Jack is trying to help his Consumer to achieve this. Once the network are establish, SMEs in USA will find that there are plenty of business opportunity in China thru using Alibaba technology platform and economy of both USA and China will improve. On the other hand China image in the world will also improve by this, resolving social conflicts. These are all kind hearted moves. People like Jack Ma just want the world to grow in the socially correct way. If its right and benefit the world, He will go for it. To be Honest most billionaires out there think this way. They are not money or greed driven , they just want to help the world within their limitation. You can clearly see that this host possess many form of bad social thinking and almost all people think this way. This is the clear difference between a successful person and a commoner.

The problem is (from an American perspective) that people in China accept a lot less pay for the same amount of work ..a lot less. So essentially were competing with soft slave owners who get a lot more man power for their buck
@stevenwang6080
@stevenwang6080 9 жыл бұрын
Shilly Storm the purchasing power is completely different in china in terms of nominal currency, their expectation of additional income inflates with the general economy just like anywhere else. Your statement is both uninformed, and really insulting to both the Chinese people and people who were/are actual slaves.
@timelessd9096
@timelessd9096 7 жыл бұрын
At the end of the day, it is what could be purchased with the amount of money you have in (any) country you live in. For example, in China, many basic items are still 5 to 10 times cheaper than as compared to US. Most foreigners to China know that food and transportation, healthcare, etc, are much cheaper in China. So, is that slave labor when hundreds of thousands of foreigners seek teaching jobs in China? Yes, these foreign teachers in China might earn around $1,000/month in China but they still could travel a lot around China and still have substantial savings and this fact alone tells you that the cost of living in China is much lower.

I'm going to do Jack Ma a favour, because he already knows that the business he is in is floating on a wave of media hype, he also know that there are some serious underlying issues that when get exposed will damage the company in the long term. Do yourself a favour lose the ego, secondly weed out the cancer that has already set in the company as it will be it's undoing over time. Thirdly get yourself a PR person who can win not just people over but Countries over as much as this is your Baby, take a back seat and hire professionals to do the donkey work. If you want to play centre stage then decide which would you rather have more returns and investors or you stealing the spot light. Take a page out of Henry Fords' book, he hired people who were at the time the best and the reason he did it was because he understood that he wasn't going to know everything so he surrounded himself with people that did. That is why he was so successful. Just trying to do you a favour!
