Daniel, you have inspired me beyond anything i can convey, Being a 45 yr old female, I entered my first tournament in Tulsa, OK last month. I was able to overcome a fear of the unknown because you effortlessly demystified entering a tournament. As a diagnosed adhd autistic my current hyper focus on studying and learning the game has brought with it a welcomed reason to live. I actually have a fire within me I haven't felt in over 15 years. Now, on topic. If I wanted to play against AI. I would. I don't want to play poker with AI. I desire to play poker with human beings being present in this moment... Again, thank you... thank you for sharing yourself with the World. You really are doing great things beyond poker... 🎉🎉🎉

I second this! I love what Daniel is doing for poker, but more importantly I love how he's able to relate and humanize all of it. I've loved poker for many years recreationally, and now I'm really considering giving it a serious run. My girlfriend, who was never much of a games person, is hooked on poker thanks mostly to Daniel.

The game of poker broke out when every amateur saw an amateur -- Moneymaker -- win the main event. It was like watching some weekend golfer win the Masters. The final, heads-up play this year was the exact opposite -- it showed the amateurs that they shouldn't show up because they'll get gang raped by the degen regs working as a pack in a one-hand, one player game, in their lust for a win.
@Joseph552204 ай бұрын
It doesn't help their case when the commentators on the official WSOP broadcast are referencing the blended metrics from their sponsored solver to describe the player's accumulation strategies over the simulated par-performance. When they are bringing on guest-commentators to do segments explaining to that Griff is under-popping mid-range hands when he's out of position and left of an action-driver stack - I think most people that got sucked-in by the Moneymaker boom are getting turned-off by the idea that you need a codebook and a $5,000 computer with the most advanced AI simulator to have any idea what the commentators are saying. And when the commercials the WSOP are interrupting the broadcast with are selling people the product that they are saying is cheating to use - it creates a lot of confusion with the first-time viewer.

I just do not understand how many people want to cut Tomayo slack. This is a tarnished win, it is simple. Rec here. As an aside, my least favorite player in the final couple of tables was Tomayo and that was way before I saw laptops on the rail. No personality at all. Sorry. And no one seems to want to criticize WSOP for not doing anything about it during play and after. I am for no devices on the table,, it is an easy rule to implement. Put them in a bag like at shows.

The lines get super blurry. Everybody (pros and amateurs) are using solvers on their breaks to analyze their play and the play of their opponents. And, unless you are using RTA, you can't memorize anywhere near enough to give you a significant advantage hand to hand, even if you're running back and forth between the table and the rail in between every street. You can just look at general range-ideas pretty much. Actually GTO strats are dependent on every tiny little detail. The precise bet sizing and hand-decision from every player and it's completely contingent on table-seat, hand-position, and the relative stack-sizes of the different players. If the HJ has a 124% the stack of the CO the GTO play might be 180-degrees opposed to if those stacks were flipped. Even if you're using a solver in real-time, you still aren't going to win unless you also catch the cards you need in the spots you need them. Everybody that wins these tournaments, no matter how much assistance they got, still needed to hit that flush in the shove vs So-and-so and dodge the straight against Billy-whoever on Day 1 to get to the final table. You run the sims on how things would have played out if one hand rivered differently and the butterfly-effect kicks in. Suddenly, it's not just the guy that didn't win the hand in your new sim that doesn't make the final-8... it's an entirely new group of 8 players at the end - because that one change to that one hand has an exponentially promulgating effect on the stack-sizes and subsequent strategies of everyone in the entire tournament. The point is: even using the computer doesn't mean you make the right play. Calling is never the right play if you are going to get out-drawn. Obviously, you don't know that, but the solvers prove that having good luck is much more important than having optimal strategy. So, it becomes a question of: do the organizers really want to fund a whole team of people to scan people for devices when they come into the venue and completely crack-down on the use of electronics all together? Can you even allow people to know who is going to be at their table before the round? Do you have to re-draw seating every 12 hands? I don't think Poker can survive as the industry it has become if all of a sudden the only way to fairly enforce anti-solver rules is to completely prohibit electronic devices by anyone anywhere on the floor. Even then, does it become like chess has been for the last 20 years - where they have to put proctors in the bathrooms to watch the players pee to make sure nobody is cheating at the urinal under the guise of a nature-call?
@Joseph552204 ай бұрын
It's interesting because the luck of catching-cards isn't even as important as the luck of catching good tables and good seating position. You play enough hands over the course of the tournament that the luck-of-the-draw tends to balance out a little (it's still incredibly important to catch the cards you need in the big pots, obviously)... but everyone has always understood that winning tournaments is contingent on winning the hands that get dealt. What we have only recently developed a real appreciation for is the idea that: some players have huge advantages over others in the field just based on which tables they get landed at and what their seat-position at those tables is. And it isn't even about the skill of those players necessarily, more often, it's about the stack-sizes of those players at the time you are getting dealt certain cards - because that dramatically changes whether you can convert luck into chips
@Joseph552204 ай бұрын
Final results is modelled best by something like: 15% luck of the cards, 25% luck of the timing of your big hands, 20% luck of your table draws, 25% luck of your seating-positions, and 15% strategy.

That is why in football you have play by play and color commentator. play by play has the knowledge of the players, the game the moves etc... and the color has to have great stories for the people that dont want it to be technical it needs to be a mix of both depending if live or overlay commentator. different types of shows. It is like Tony Romo he understands the game, the plays, the players, and can also add stories has the ability to do both. Love your guys takes on it. BTW happy birthday DNegs.

With regard to the final table solver deal. Create a barrier between the rail and the players. Players should not be able to run over and get coaching, look at solvers, hold hands or whatever while they are playing at a final table. They need to step away from the table (meaning that they are dealt out of a hand or hands), or wait until break time. Do what you want on breaks (away from the table).
@robert23755 ай бұрын
why would any coaching be allowed at the final table... just cuz it happened in the past, doesn't mean it should happen in the future.... One player per hand... no coaching allowed IMO.
@robert23755 ай бұрын
take the situation of online... if a player is playing while a coach is helping/coaching them (in real time or between hands), this isn't acceptable behaviour... it should not be allowed in live poker either.

Suggesting Astedt's last hand was a punt is a bit Monday morning quarterbacking considering Griff played extremely aggressive. Same in any sport....Ball was a little bit over the line v big bit over the line is still over the line. The margin is irrelevant. Poker MUST have clear definition of rules to allow a fair playing field. Having grey ares or "possibility" is worse than not having a rule at all. This main event result MUST not be allowed to stand.
