Well said. Vika, while an intense competitor, is a true sportswoman and couldn’t have been more gracious in what had to have been an extremely disappointing loss. Still shocked how Vika got so tight when serving at 5-4 (30-0) in that final set. Congrats to Paula for hanging tough and not giving up.

YES, they both deserved to win!, even Vika, as more experienced, had the serve and 5:4 in the third!, but Paula made a decisive break and with a little luck, in the second tie break, she won!.That is it. So congrats to Paula! Spanish tennis has a new great talent, who will, for sure, in the future, have more trophies!

I could not hear it as my tv volume changes abruptly. Do you know what that surgery referred to? Was it related to Azarenka giving birth to her child?

She has the tools to step up, but her net game needs improvement. And, sometimes, when leading the score, she starts to wait for the adversary mistakes, instead of sealing the deal herself. If she fixes these issues, the sky is the limit.

@@EduDiniz23 Yes, her game needs noticeable improvements, there were plenty of easy shots that Badosa should have converted into winners, but gave an easy return to Azarenka who converted them to winners (facepalm). Just to be fair Badosa had great winner shots as well.

It's all respects to these legends of the game who are still fighting day in day out. They are very much the dark horses in every tournament the played. What shape are you in now, compared to eighteen years back? Vika turned pro in 2003. Being able to keep playing in the pro tour for eighteen years is a major achievement in itself. Not just playing, but playing hard, and playing consistent and playing at the top level.

Vika actually loves playing hard hitters like Badosa, that's why her mstches with Serena most have been very tight. Badosa has been showing good form in a while, but i was really excited to see Ostapenko whom Vika managed to overcome (as i predicted), so i was predicting Vika to win today, given the similarity of Ostapenko and Badosa. but i guess, Badosa was more patient and Vika got a bit unlucky.

The difference in this match was Paula's forehand. They both were consistent but Paula has a huge forehand that she can blast for winners when she wants too. Azarenka has good strokes but she doesn't have that big weapon.

Great match! Badosa defeated so many top and in-form opponents all week and deserved to win this big title! Still, Vika really did have it serving at 5-4, 30-love and made a bunch of errors. In the end, Badosa stepped up and really took it in the tiebreak!
