Just have to soak it and make a tea in a bucket and there's your pesticide the nicotine from the tobacco kills the bugs Plus farming in my area were very resourceful about stuff. You tend to get resourceful with what you have I understand not all farmers will be very lucky when it comes to things, but I know Farmers can be very resourceful with stuff and you are right there will need to be help in things such as harvesting crops and tending to crops

One cheap easy fix is to install fast fuses into and between every component of the grid, such as transformers. The fuses pop at 100% of rated power. If an EMP happens, replace fuses and 80+% of the system survives. If there are not enough fuses, stick a metal rod in the fuse holder and presto..its a temporary fix. In the 30's my grandfather made substitute fuses out a penny, wooden dowel and a glass marble. The trick was soldering a lead wire inside that would melt if overloaded. His fuses were safe, just ugly. A store fuse cost a quarter, his friends and neighbors bought his for a dime.

The HV transformer can not shut off the power, the primary switch gear can and our if the SCADA is hacked this is another issue. The transformer itself is just primary/secondary winding, coolant out and no ability to interrupt power on its own. Still want to know more about squeezing fluids out of wood smoke. Start at 370 degrees F, cool to 25-60 degrees F for gasoline. How many 45 gallon barrels do I have to weld end to end for a refactory tower? How to drain the fliuds. Centrefuges for cleaning carbon out. This is a prepper subject.

Let me give you all a real event that could easily have happened now. In 1996, I was hired by a job shop on a contract basis to work on a computer conversion and migration project (including SCADA and other code) for the Arizona Salt River Project. It would have been easy for me to introduce code into the system. Let your imaginations run wild, and such a thing probably could have happened. Beyond doing a cursory check, there is no real security. I worked on many job sites in critical infrastructure, and all across the board it is like this. So long as you haven't committed a felony or been fired, you are a shoo-in. In most situations, you have full run of the plant, workstations unattended, doors to critical facilities unlocked, and documents open to public view. Military installations are better, but bear in mind that most of the critical infrastructure is private.

Thanks, Nate, this was informative and interesting interview!! If DoD made congress aware 25 years ago, this project of hardening the grid should have been prioritized long ago. A few years back, we did see freezing temps caused power outages throughout Austin, TX (my fav place) which left a lot of people without power for days. If power never came back, it would cause so much hardship and widespread loss of life.
