I find Tillian and Jonny's voices so inhuman and unobtainable that Kurt is my favorite vocalist. He just sounds like a regular guy singing his heart out. Maybe its nostalgia. But when im writing a certain kind of music its usually in Kurt's voice. I love his voice, and his solo stuff is so good id hate for him to go unnoticed. Maybe a hot take, but i think Tillian is just an overall superior vocalist to Johnny Craig. Craig is great, but theres other people who kinda sound like him, Tillian is an entirely unique vocalist that does it well. Poor Kurt, dude was vocalist on some of their overall best songs (blue dream etc).
@codybuckland13792 жыл бұрын
Blue Dream had Jonny in it. Kurt was responsible for stuff like NASA, Carl Barker, and Uneasy Hearts
@TheRealXenosapien2 жыл бұрын
I think Tilian is more technically skilled than either of the others, but that comes with the downside of sounding like a fucking keyboard a good amount of the time. On Mothership I thought he was perfect, because he added some grit to his voice in places, and that made the emotions come through a lot clearer for me. In the original mix of Acceptance Speech dude straight up sounds like a synth in some places, and while I loved that record, that aspect definitely bothered me more than any other complaints I had about it.

Not a hot take. Jonny Craig has a unique and nice voice, but I feel like Tilian works better even singing his parts. Also Jonny is a terrible person.

My biggest criticism of DGD's music is that it always feels very unresolved and "Wandery". Between the hyperactive lead guitar, and Tillian's R&B type vocal lines the melody's just wander around without going anywhere. I felt that on Artificial Selection this got addressed to some degree, with some stronger chorus melodies that offered a nice contrast. Unfortunatly it doesnt seem like they've decided to continue in that direction.

Love DGD, but they're quickly becoming the Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed of post hardcore. I understand the mass appeal and financial stability of releasing banger after banger, but to me it's becoming stale after the last 2 albums. They got successful on the back of their silly and experimental nature, with bangers thrown in for good measure. It just doesn't feel as purposeful or focused as it used to be, and even with all of the musicians firing on all cylinders it feels super safe. Would gladly wait 4 years for something boundary pushing and detailed like ALLB's No Place, over waiting 18 months for 18 more bangers that sound the same as the last 18 bangers. That's just my opinion, I'm super glad to see them get the recognition they deserve.

Like, just listen to the song as a whole, comment during if you have to, and THEN go after the points you find weird/funny. Like, am i being crazy? With that being said, this is the 1st DGD song i've ever listened to, and holy shit, what is this??? 🤣🤣 Is this what's going on inside a gay metalheads head? 🤣 (don't mean that as an insult. Fruity vibes? You have about 15 years of storytelling to catch up on to even come close to understanding WTF is going on.... and you still won't have a clue haha. I'm not sure if musically DGD creates concept albums, but album art and video clips generally run on a theme album to album... for whatever reason, we have been given fruit this time (as opposed to robots, creatures etc...) It's all fun though.
