Fun Fact! In the books Percy actually jumps into the Mississippi instead of being grabbed by a water arm thing. As Uncle Rick put it "I thought it was closer". He genuinely didnt realize the arch was like 100 yards from the Mississippi and wrote it as if it was right above it lol
@TheMontyVerse10 ай бұрын
Seriously? 😂 That's hilarious, Props to Rick for being able to laugh at himself though!
@rileyburnett72010 ай бұрын
Yep. Also he does not shove Grover an Annabeth out of the way. Or meet the mother monster on the train. In the book the see the arch from the train (is that possible) then annabeth talks about that she wants to build something like that so they decide to go explore St. Louis as the train has an hour lay-over there. They get to the top of the arch and then are about to leave, the only people there are a a park ranger a little boy (never said age by guessing between 5-6) and his mother and a fat lady with a dog. Grover and Annabeth get on the elevator and park ranger tell Percy to wait. Then the battle starts. And yes the park ranger and the boy and his mom witness it the battle.

as a book reader, I love seeing how excited you are about this show as well as hear all your theories! this show is great so far and the only complaint i have is the episode lengths, i really wish we got longer ones but hopefully as the seasons progress, we can see that happen as the books become more action packed

I love these comments! The PJ community has been so lovely to us and I appreciate that. Yeah, I need 10 more minutes on this episode.

In the books, Grover could talk to animals and found a poodle that ran away from its rich owners. He let the kids return him for the reward money to pay for the train tickets.
@TheMontyVerse10 ай бұрын
That is actually pretty cool but I can see why they cut it.
@maciedixon398310 ай бұрын
I’m sure we will get him talking to animals. Hint there is a song called zebra in Vegas. 😂

I think we already had him talking to the Pegasus in episode three, but they didn’t make it clear whether he was actually hearing it respond or whether Grover was just interpreting its reactions to what he was saying.

8:34 So the way the mist works is that it pretty much makes you see something that makes sense in your head. So they would see the damage but theyd think it was made by an explosion or something that wouldnt break their worldview

Sally Jackson is definitely an awesome mom, the series is getting her character right. Also, they haven’t said this in the series, but in the books they decided Grover should have the winged shoes because Percy is the son of Poseidon and shouldn’t be flying (in Zeus’s domain). They said that for why they weren’t traveling by plane, but it’s also why Percy doesn’t use the shoes, just to be safe.

they should at least explained in the previous ep as it gives so much flavor with the relationship of the gods. i hope they will at least talk about it in the next eps.

The three leads are children, and there are strict labor laws for child actors. They can't work long hours. That's one reason why the movies aged them up. So you have longer production time, but less screen time, which means shorter story time. If they do all five books, the actors will outgrow the age restrictions and the episodes should lengthen.
@rileyburnett72010 ай бұрын
True. However stranger thing run time were 40-50 minutes and they had kids too. They are adults now but they were not in season one.

Chimera really had so much buildup, absolutely! Definitely great incremental danger, although I did miss her shadow on the roof before Grover confirmed it was the Chimera. Love that roar she has. You grow girl!
@R0ary10 ай бұрын
So, I'm going on the assumption that Disney ran into the issue of making a creature with a lion head, a goat head, and a snake for a tail looking both intimidating and like an actual thing, rather than some cg monstrosity, so instead made a single creature with a lion-snake-goat head. It works well enough, and I understand that that was probably a LOT easier to make work, but I won't deny that I'm a little sad we don't get a proper chimera myself.
@TheMontyVerse10 ай бұрын
Yeah or they wanted something that looked unique. Either way I think it was fine and served it's purpose but since it was a baby maybe it will grow a second head eventually?
@charlottemarks888110 ай бұрын
The chimera in the show is shown as it was described in the book. As with Medusa, in mythology there are often many variations of the same story.
@R0ary10 ай бұрын
@@charlottemarks8881 Really? Huh. I guess it's been too long since I read the books, since I don't remember that detail. Or maybe it's just that since I was a fan of myth, fantasy, and JRPG's since long before I read the books, my brain just skipped over that, and inserted the traditional version. Okay, that's even less of an issue, then.
@EverShy_10 ай бұрын
It's not. The Chimera in the book is described as "the head of a lion with a blood-caked mane, the body and hooves of a giant goat, and a serpent for a tail, a ten-foot-long diamondback" What we got in the show is a lion with goat horns and a reptilian tail. I'd say that's close enough! @@R0ary

As a born and raised St. Louis native can confirm that everything seen(minus the elevators those are incredibly small) are accurate. We dont ever get representation so growing up reading this was very special. Next episode will have a bit of an EDGE!

Well percy is technically a prince of the ocean, and it is actually hard for the ocean to step away and not helping him all this time (because of the stupid laws) the gods cannot interfere with their children life. They respect him and feeling very protective of him their prince. One thing, percy was never asked for any help from the ocean so he thinks he was alone and his dad never cared but not, only if he asked him he will help him. There’s a line in a book when it comes to the gods “sometimes all you gotta do just ask.”
@nicoleterego10 ай бұрын
What a great analysis. So on point. I'm glad that the show is actually doing a good job translating those messages from the books to non-readers. Can't wait for you to see more of the themes they will explore in future episodes and seasons. It'll only get mature and darker from here.

In my anime: the Chimera had the head and body of a lioness, the horns and hind legs of an ibex, and a viper in place of the tail. She had scales instead of fur, cobra hoods that look like a male lion’s mane, and spikes on its back, on the way to the snake tail, and she can also breathe fire.

i love your reactions so much!!!!! you guys have become my favorite percy jackson reactions and as a huge one piece fan imma watch through that reaction next 💪🏼😤 thank you for having such honest positive reactions, instead of complaining you guys always find the good things to breakdown, and even when you have qualms or as you guys say "get flustered" it doesn’t feel petty or small they feel like valid and deserved criticism of the show! i completely agree the show needs another 10-15 mins per episode to let the story breath, especially as a fan of the books the shorter episodes (and probably smaller budget as well) demand a really brisk pacing that sacrifices some really spectacular world-building rick does in the books! thank you guys again ♥♥♥

The 'us' the nereid mentioned are probably the people and creatures that fall under Poseidon's domain And the Nereides are water nymphs, they're sisters and there are 50 of them , the make counterpart is Nerites, their one brother

SUCH a well written character, such a brilliant actress (leah sava jeffries i will go to war for you), such good dynamics with every character around her, just??? she’s really awesome…?.!??????!?? and yes her nerding out about architecture is the best also i agree it was WAY TOO SHORT!!!!!!!!😭😭😭 PLEASE JUST 10 MORE MINUTES!!!!!!

Namor feeling is not a coincidence. Disney is reusing a lot of things in Disney+ TV Shows to cut cost. In Percy Jackson: - A lot of the studio scenes was made in The Volume, from Mandalorian. Like the dreams - The monsters vanish in Thanos Snap - The under water scenes were using the same technique from Wakanda Forever (part of the crew too)

I'm disappointed this episode ran so short. If you look at the book, they literally stopped in the middle of a chapter, which is very weird. The Chimera in the book is described as "the head of a lion with a blood-caked mane, the body and hooves of a giant goat, and a serpent for a tail, a ten-foot-long diamondback". I actually really like the design, they went for the body and head of a lion, goat horns and a reptilian tail, which is different but still close enough to the original description. It's not my favorite episode but I really like the changes they made. Like, Annabeth being hostile to authority figures and Percy "falling" to his death instead of "plunging". Both make a lot of sense.

7:30 Oh she isn't talking about gods, she is actively speaking about demigods. They are monsters - the same type of monsters others are (as Echidna mentions - they are all related). The only difference is that they are on the side that won the war against titans. Demigods relentlessly hunt down any mythological beings with most level of cruelty, they are overly powerful and they can hide within human population. And they all have been doing it for past millenia. Especially in this universe demigods are a bunch of murderous little thieves. Just with Medusa - they not only ate the food for free, they chopped her down, used her postal items and stole from her register. And gal literally had just a burger joint, minding her own business. Monsters add to the economy and have jobs, being respectful members of society. Demigods are unruly teenagers that leave behind destruction and death.
