For those who don't know Speedway is oval dirt track motorbike racing which involves the bikes riding as fast as possible with no brakes at 80+ MPH, in order for these bikes to make the turns at those speeds they need to drift using the throttle to prevent them from crashing into the fence.

That's crazy! Was it after a jump or did it just break randomly as you were riding it?

@@BMordecai It was after doing a little Bunny Hop, next thing I knew I was running down the Road holding the front wheel and handlebars with the rest of the bike dragging behind me by the brake cable. One of the rear welds had broken under the seat and it snapped the lower cross bar

Yeahhh, an embarassing one! I remember one time where a rider came out to a Grand Prix meeting wearing the Yellow & Black helmet colour that's used in British Speedway instead of the standard yellow and the ref excluded him for it. Couldn't believe it when it happened! I've not been able to find the clip since

Never understood speedway. I've raced U.S. flat track my whole life, and every once in awhile they'd have a speedway class. Is it just EU flat track?

I'm not an expert on US flat track as I've never really watched it, but the key difference from what I'm aware of is brakes. Speedway bikes are not allowed to have brakes, which is why the cornering styles are so drastically different. I believe the bikes weigh a lot less than typical US flat track bikes which allows them to be 'thrown' into the corner in such dramatic fashion. If they tried cornering like the US flat track bikes do then they'd have to be off the throttle by the time they reach the finish line. There's something very elegant and exciting about using the throttle to slow down lol

​@@TheDJ007Dude thank you mate. I went to the Sheffield vs Belle Vue meeting on Thursday and was a very good meeting. Last year's finals were both very exciting (albeit heartbreaking as a Sheffield fan to watch them lose to Belle Vue after such a brilliant year)
