I actually appreciate TB that you were dragging that Portal 2 video for so long. As result I found out that Portal 2 had a pretty hilarious hidden dialogue in it, some that might take from 5 to 10 minutes if you just wait and listen. Game immersion kind of breaks down when the dialogue stops and reminds you "this is a video game", do something to advance in the story or sit in complete silence. Portal 2 gave you the feeling that it can keep going all day without repeating itself, a test who has tougher patience.

Dear Genna, I hope you have time to read this, as well as that it helps. If I could, I would shake TB's hand and give him a hug. For no other reason than to show some empathy to another suffering human being. Our pain may differ, but we both will live with it for the rest of our lives. There is no getting better, there is only learning to cope. I salute him for finding a way to avoid a source of continued degradation and hope that in time he is able to find a greener pasture to find some solace in. You both know that not all the viewers are hate spewing trolls, but I know its impossible to see those of us that give two pence on your well being. Thank you for reading this and I hope his pain wanes sooner rather than later.

Well, kind of. DS9 felt too much like a soap series to me and while I heard that gets better in later seasons, I'm not going to sit through multiple seasons I don't like just to get at the good stuff. I did like Voyager although there were a lot of derpy episodes. Unlike TB I did like how they were able to beat the Borg even though it felt too much like a bad use of Deus Ex Machina (with the whole time-travelling Janeway coming back to safe the day shit, would've liked it more if they came up with the 'virus' on their own). Enterprise, however, was just generally bad imo. I felt like they tried to bring back the camp from TOS but still took themselves too seriously, which is a terrible combination. I'd definitely rate it below DS9 purely on quality and character development.

That's a terrible argument TB. You said "you'd rather affect the outcome of a bad story. Because that's what a video game is to you." How often do video games actually change based on your actions? Pretty rarely. Some do, like David Cage games, or the Mass Effect Series for example. But most games have a set story line, regardless of the decisions you make in each section.
@sitromxe9472
@sitromxe9472 11 жыл бұрын
"David cage's stories are better than Broken age's in the sense that you are immersed in the experience due to the decisions you have made in it and the consequences of those decisions." Bullshit... David cage's games completely fail in generating an immersive atmosphere because the situations and scenarios which they illustrate are so jarring ludicrous and poorly composed that they literally divorce themselves from the intended (dramatic) tone... As such, nobody of sound mind takes them seriously... ... You prefer the games spawned by Cage over Broken age because they are more gameplay extensive, there's no need to dance around this point...
@MaryMaryMarcy
@MaryMaryMarcy 11 жыл бұрын
I honestly do take david cage games seriously, I absolutely loved beyond two souls and heavy rain, but I will admit they do have their odd moments though. The navajo chapter in beyond completely just shattered everything and took me right out, but I still think heavy rain is really good, despite the fact the killer doesn't change, so the game doesn't have much replay value.

Didari Spoiler warning... ... ... ... ... ... Secret Underwater Korean ghost research facility... An entity whose capabilities are completely undefined and inconsistent across the entire jumbled timeline of the game... The same entity, whose powers need to artificially inhibited by the game as to avoid the trivialization every hostile engagement, threat or source of conflict... The needless jumbling of Beyond: Two souls' timeline... The protagonist breaking down into tears in every second scene... Mysterious AI god... Business Bugs... The homeless Illuminati... An extremely concerning quantity of rape scenes... Climbing inside of a fridge in order to escape a lethal conflagration and explosion, and not only surviving this scenario but somehow teleporting out of the still raging inferno, entirely unscathed, onto the street several stories below... A killer who is kidnaps young boys so that he can find a father capable of doing what his father could not, and when he finally finds such an individual he tries to shot him to death... ... Shall I go on... Cage has no shortage of these...
@MaryMaryMarcy
@MaryMaryMarcy 11 жыл бұрын
Sitromxe Oh I honestly only like heavy rain and beyond, his other ones are a bit batshit crazy. Underwater facility isn't that weird (for me at least) The timeline jumps made sense, sense I thought it was supposed to be a half remembered memory, different things coming in at different times. Killer father was a bit faulty, but if someone is at that stage of killing, their probably insane, or he was just testing their selflessness. Rape scenes Cage does seem a bit stuck on, but I can't really say their a sticking point for me. If by entity you mean raiden, then I thought his powers were fairly obvious, to manipulate objects in the world, sure there are some you cant, but that is in a few game. Though this is just me, I do understand how and why people could absolutely hate and despise these games, or find them laughable. It could be that I find them more of a casual story experience, something to play, accept the logic and have fun with, but as a huge and expansive plot, quite a bit doesn't make sense when you think about it. Still love Heavy rain and Beyond though.

"Broken Age blows Cage's games out of the water because his stories are fucking terrible." Stop quote mining to try and make a moot point. What TB is saying is that he personally prefers games where there is a certain amount of player agency, where your decisions have consequences and where you CAN screw up and you CAN fail. As entertaining as Broken Age is, he is correct in that it isn't really a game in the modern sense, because it is impossible to fail beyond just sitting where you are and doing nothing for hours on end. That's why he says he would prefer to PLAY one of Cage's games; story is terrible, but he feels that there is more at stake because you CAN fuck up and fail. Broken Age, at the moment, does not offer that, and you cannot say that it does.

Honestly, Cage´s stories are good ONLY at beggining. Then, half in the story he finds a way to implement total bullshit into it. And then the ending becomes as Jesse said on podcast "See you in the sequel!" while there will never be any. WTF.

TB and I share opinions about Star Trek series! I like DS9 as a series better, but TNG, the average episode quality is a bit better, but in DS9, the fact that there's an actual overarching storyline makes DS9 greater than the sum of its parts moreso than TNG

@jackskellingtonsora
@jackskellingtonsora 10 жыл бұрын
No. It really wasn't. It was god awful. It had a decent premise and then forgot its premise for the entire show while trying to be TNG lite because TNG was so massively popular. Basically Berman and Braga suck as showrunners. Berman because he was insanely conservative and Braga because he only had one or two good ideas and repeated them ad nauseum until they were boring.

***** Must be interesting to live in a world without facts. If only things such as the Nielsen rating existed which could show that Voyager was far closer in popularity to DS9 than it was to Enterprise. That it went on for the originally scheduled 7 years staying strong the whole time, compared to Enterprise which was cancelled early with less than half its original viewership. Good thing for you facts don't exist though, right?

I would have to agree with TB that Voyager is worse then Enterprise. Voyager has a decent episode here or there, but the grand majority of it is god awful. Enterprise at least has two good seasons, the last two. Minus the offensively horrible last episode that was so bad that it got retconned by a book. This happens when Berman and Braga come back to write a "valentine to the fans." I would also have to agree with him that DS9 is best and TNG is second best. DS9 is just way too good. You can't beat it. I've watched it three times and loved it every single time.

So, evidently, TB cannot enjoy movies because he can't invest in the story without more interactivity. I hated his entire argument. He could find it boring, but these are still games that can immerse you more than a movie can.

"I would rather be able to effect the outcome of a bad story than be a bystander and a spectator to a good one" That's where I disagree. Since you equated Broken Age to a movie that means you would rather play a bad video game than experience of good movie? Well I'm warping what you said a bit, but that's what it sound like to me. So what if Broken Age is an interactive movie, it's still a better piece of medium than Beyond was. The game with more mechanics doesn't automatically win better video game. But I personally value a game by how much the narrative makes me want to experience the interactive bits along the way. Sure Broken Age doesn't do much in the way that the video game medium is able to transcend the movie medium, but it doesn't need to. Broken Age still has elements of discovery and learning via interaction, and it's more of a game than Beyond is. The choices in Beyond never felt impactful or meaningful and didn't make the narrative any better. In Broken Age by using "Rub X against Y" at least you're learning about the world through interactions, by failing one of those you learn about character traits or the world's lore. I think it's a great way of discovering a world and it's characters. If I want to feel smart about what a game made me do mechanically I'd play a game like Civ 5. But sometimes games are just all about the ride, and they can stand on their won against games like Civ 5 because it all boils down to bewilderment and awe of the experience a game makes you feel to you and not what you the player did to achieve that.
