@@footballnerd277 Nonsense. Give Perez credit to fully understand the situation. He mostly made Lewis past near zones where he could tuck in Lewis slip stream and then DRS Lewis to retake. Also he knew he could race Lewis harder without caring if he crashed. Lewis had to finish the race to win the championship so Lewis had to be more cautious.

@hiephiephoera Yes, but if we add the 10-ish seconds that Perez cost Hamilton to his lead before the SC, Lewis would have time to pit for fresh softs and still come out in front of Max. And in that case, we would have a showdown of two drivers on fresh softs, with Hamilton on "pole". Who knows what would happen then. (They would probably crash tbh).

8:10 actually impressed that you say that Checo's defence didn't do much. Without it, Hamilton would've had a free stop with the safety car. The old hard tyres on Lewis's car were pretty much the reason why Max overtook him.

@@khalidqureshi3168 But the Merc is so much faster than the Redbull. It was showing some weird stuff that no other car can pull. I legit think there's something the FiA just hasn't caught up on yet. Like there's no way Lewis on Mediums can open such a gap on Max with softs - never has that happened before. That just means something with Lewis's car was tinkered with. They have DONE something that is probably... of questionable legality I'd say. Mercedes literally are - geniuses.
@khalidqureshi3168
@khalidqureshi3168 2 жыл бұрын
@@vl3005 maybe, it did seem weird that lewis got outqualified by a lot and still had the faster car but we all have seen mexico so no comments. Lewis was pushing his mediums like hell and max was kind of preserving, simple as that. Both wanted to do a 1 stop but merc didnt wanna lose track position so they kept pushing and overcut redbull to be in the lead and have fresher tyres. I was surprised though when lewis was still putting in amazing laps with those hard tyres and maintaining the lead. He got very unlucky here where masi would rather have a last lap showdown to let max win (it was a lose lose for merc either way, had they have pitted, they would be behind max who has a lot of life in his tyres. They stayed out and redbull got a free pit) than give both equal chance. Doesnt make sense that 1 could be 1st and still have a disadvantage. Either way, i do think am kind of done with the sport the way it went. The rules are just crazy, i never liked sc before cause it involves luck more times than strategy and now that stupid sc decided a championship. I mean had there been a race restart and max would have won, i would have respected it and moved on, but yeah, what happened is pretty much unacceptable. Like football analogy would be that a team scored 3-4 goals while the other team couldnt and just so people could be on their feet at the last minute, they say whoever scores first wins (while the losing team is on a counter attack)

regarding the lap 1 incident, my honest opinion is that if it was Max who went off on the run-off like this, he was told to give the position back AND handed a 5 second penalty... With respect to the rest of the race: Lewis had his fair share of luck throughout the WHOLE season. This time, it was with Max. Insert Quote Alsono#1 (KARMA) I just hope, sincerely hope, Massi is going to reflect on this year and do things better next year. 1) consistency is key.... we had a whole season with the opposite, starting at race 1 (Lewis leaving the track 22 times being allowed; Max does it once: NOPE!) ending with what we saw yesterday where FIA makes up its own rules 2) rethink some of the rules: pushing other drivers off track should NOT be allowed (insert quote Alonso#2: you have to leave the space, all the time); not considering the 10 carlengths at a race restart; holding up competition under safety car etc etc etc Key in both: Rules should support fair racing and not allow a driver an advantage

The rules weren't broken. In fact the rulebook literally states that the race director can alter the guidelines (which is literally what they are) as they see fit. Teams had said they didn't want a safety car finish before the race. Masi decided to finish the race under green flag racing as soon as the incident had been cleared and the track was safe. Unlapping the cars between Hamilton and Verstappen might not have been fair in the eyes of many but again, it is in line with the guidelines which state ANY car can unlap, not ALL. The more deserving driver won the championship under a legitimate racing lap with no interference from lapped cars as a result. If Merc wanted Hamilton to win they should have just boxed him.

I'm a fan of Max and RBR, and couldn't be happier for Max and the team. I think he deserved this win and did a great drive today. The problem is Michael Masi and he's interpretation of F1 rules. What happened on the safety car and how the unlapped cars were handled was extremely unfair to Lewis, not to mention outside of the rule book. All Max did was play on the field that was given to him, he didn't break any rules so to strip away a championship from him would then be extremely unfair to Max. It's a huge shame for the sport and for the win to be clouded in so much controversy, there's no one to blame but Michael Masi. He needs to go

Mercedes escalating it to the Court of Arbitration for Sport doesn't feel like it's about the race any more - it is an absolute power-play because they're forcing the FIA's hand in a way that can impact the reputation of the FIA in general. . Masi walks - admission of fault, PR Issue . Masi fired - admission of fault, PR Issue . Court Arbitration Sport ruling - verdict of fault, PR Issue Either way if Masi goes, Merc will probably drop the case.

Mercedes gambled by not boxing Lewis, a safety car eventually came, Max did his thing, and they lost. It's pretty straight forward. You might have been wondering why Mercedes insisted against boxing Lewis on two separate occasions. I mean, why would Mercedes take a gamble they did not need to take ? I hear you ask. The key to this riddle lies in the following observation : Boxing Lewis meant losing the lead ; and losing the lead meant putting Lewis in a position where he would have to battle Verstappen for the lead. Mercedes strategy was centered around avoiding contact with Max at all cost, and that meant staying ahead, and therefore not boxing Lewis. Mercedes should have taken the bull by the horn - pun intended - and given Lewis a chance to race himself to victory. The truth and irony is that Mercedes ultimately lost because they precisely lacked what Max's Redbull doesn't : Courage. End of tangent.

We watched a historic injustice. They deprived Max of an honest win, and lost huge fan base. (1) First of all, while safety cars wiping out margins were always there, it full unfairness and ugliness were on full display in this race. Something needs to be done about it. (2) It would have been better to red flag and restart after the safety car. Because according to Masi, unlapped cars will not be allowed to overtake. Horner gets on blower and 5 seconds later, the cars inbetween max and Lewis can unlap themselves but not the rest of them. If that's not gifting Max the WC then I don't know what is. I turned off the TV 5 laps before the end just to read afterwards what had happened while I wasn't watching anymore. Still, how Perez defended against Hamilton was one of the best actions of the whole season. And that while driving absolutely fair. Retrospectively watching the last lap was sill nerve-wracking. It was interesting. And finally, Kimi as driver of the day. Sure it's not because of his success in the race but more a "thank you" for one of the most unique and charismatic drivers of the last decades. F1 will be missing something from next year onwards.
