As someone who loves collecting but really isn't interested in spending a fortune on any hobby. I really do appreciate your videos. I've had a lot of these when I was a kid. I get lucky from time to time in my travels (recently I did acquire the yellow variation of that fire truck, happy to learn of its rarity). I don't have anything that could be considered legitimately mint condition though.

I played with a LOT of these cars; this was when I was just starting to get seriously into toys, Hot Wheels in particular. In part b/c I could now drive myself TO ANY TOY STORE I LIKED! Freedom! The Talbot Lago was my fav then, even now it was a great choice. I also tracked down the NASA truck years later cause I thought it was the coolest! But that Countach, and Testarossa, so crude, almost cartoon cars. But that’s part Hot Wheels culture.

Hello again Odawg! Another question for you. Is it better to collect Hong Kong versions or Malaysia versions, as far as age? I have a P911 blackwell from long Kong and I'm trying to guess the age. Thank you very much for your time and expertise.
@wtffor5 жыл бұрын
Both Hong Kong and Malaysia base variations are usually of the same production numbers and collector value... although for some models a Hong Kong base will signify it being slightly older than a Malaysia base counterpart.... this because Hot Wheels were first made in Hong Kong up until 1982, then Malaysia as well during the early 1980's through to present day.

Hi again Odawg, Marty here with another question. I am wondering about how many cars were in ,let's say, 1989. I think it was 76? Anyway, compared to today was it easier to collect a whole year back then? I hope this makes sense to you, I ramble. Thanks again.

How many hot wheels do you have along with the play sets. I have been collecting since I was a kid and now that I am older I have kept going.thanks for the history of hot wheels like it very interesting to watch and learn
@wtffor5 жыл бұрын
Over the years I have located all of the cars for the vintage playsets I have, since most often the cars are missing from these hard to find playsets. The cars often sell on eBay for high prices for harder to find or short run playsets, but then again some cars are affordable. I have around 30 playsets, most dating from 1975 to 1989. Thanks for the question, and happy collecting!

I have been keeping track of the sale prices of vintage Hot Wheels on eBay for years, so this is now mainly my conclusion for my "price guide".... keep in mind that supply and demand can drastically change the values for older and rare cars.

I have been having so much fun "revisiting" my collection in these year-by-year videos, that I now plan to for sure do the Blue Card era through to 1994, and quite possibly beyond! I need to re-check my completeness percentage of the cars going forwards from 1995, as often I do not collect cars that don't interest me from the mid-90's through to present day (fictional cars, poor paint job choices, etc.)

Hello wtf. Question. Why do some hot wheels and matchbox cars dont have a stamp on the bottom of the casting? Like the model name and year and then some do have a stamp. Shouldn't all castings have a name and year?
@wtffor5 жыл бұрын
Good question! It would be helpful if Hot Wheels had put a name stamp and year on all Hot Wheels, but alas they never have been consistent with this. The year on the base of the car is only telling of what year the casting was first created... not what year the car is with it's various paint changes.
