I like this thing where the main guy casually sits on his correspondent's desks to chat about their stories.

WTHR was definitely a decade ahead of one of our local stations here in the Toronto area called Citytv...City also adopted a live-from-and-around-the-newsroom newscast format in 1987-they were the only Toronto station that did it then, and they still do it that way today...

I think WWOR-TV Channel 9 used that format during the late 80s/early 1990s.

@@jessemathes5126 WTHR had been an ABC affiliate since signing on in 1957. They switched to NBC in 1979 when WRTV dropped that network and joined ABC.

Is she one of THE Crosleys or is she "a" Crosley? WTHR was founded by the Crosley Broadcasting Corporation, a division of Avco.

Eyewitness NewsCenter 13. Talk about having your cake and eating it; that was a weird newscast title, a hybrid of "Eyewitness News" and "NewsCenter ".

The newscast was from July 7, 1977 instead of June 7, 1977. The Chicago Cubs faced the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 7, according to baseballreference.com

From 1972 to 1973, he co-anchored the "Sixth Hour News" on WNBC-TV in New York City with former Cleveland Mayor Carl Stokes; after Udell left for some NBC network assignments before moving on elsewhere, Stokes would be paired with Jim Hartz at 6. The Stokes/Udell team achieved a dubious distinction in '72 when their newscast's ratings were so low (behind not only leader WABC-TV's "Eyewitness News" and WCBS-TV's "Six O'Clock Report" but presumably also the syndicated offerings put out by WNEW-TV, WPIX and WOR-TV) that they were designated by an asterisk ( * ) - as noted by Ron Powers in the 1980 edition of his book "The Newscasters: The News Business As Show Business." At least Udell had a run in New York - a distinction that, say, Ron Hunter never had.

don't remember that exact newscast; tended to show up on the 11pm news more and covering stories for that during the early news time. started there in late 75; we started NC13 the Jan of 76 with that one of a kind news set studio and Paul Udell--Bob Campbell...by the way went on to be the News Director thru the 80s and early 90s..when news was News...not bias opinion...my 2 cents
