My favourite thing about kung fu movies is the kung fu. So imagine my delight when the film only spends about 23 seconds getting the plot out of the way so the kung fu can start. "What do you men want here?" "To destroy your Gym" *Fight breaks out* Me: This movie is amazing.

Magnificent movie. After seeing a half dozen of third grade kung fu movies, finally i got to see a good one again. Wong Tao and Chang Yi are real experts not just actors but. The stick fighting is as good if not better as hwang jang lee's "hell's stick". The stick is indeed a king of weapon, even a swordsman is no match with an expert stick fighter because of the reach and speed of the tip of the stick.

it seems we're a bunch of seasoned fan on this page and we all agree about this movie. This is the expert kung fu quality that you spend countless hours watching dozen of movies to finally come across rarely. This movie is probably 1 out of 100 because : 1) expert skills with the presented weapons 2) serious fighting, scenes, no production tricks or excessive off camera special props 3) clean and realistic action. Maybe the only criticism is the fighting are a bit short, a few more minutes on the final fight would have been welcome.

The use of sticks were beyond belief! Spears would be a better option - more realistic IMHO... neverless a really enjoyable movie!
@goognamgoognw66374 жыл бұрын
the white haired bad guy stick had a spear on one end. The strength of the spear or stick its long reach is also its weakness if an opponent succeeds getting inside of the reach, he can no longer be speared and armed with double short swords would make mince meet of a stick fighter. This is why controlling the distance is critical with a stick. Defending against a stick is best done with a shield on one arm and a short sword on the other like roman soldiers. This gives the stick only one chance to spear, if blocked by the shield walk in and fatal blow with the sword. In ancient time real warfares before gun powder, the shield was an essential part of a soldier's equipment. It's strangely missing from kung fu weapons.

Narration at begin and part of description summarize the movie well. Inner circle: "Chang Hoo Yun" is (Wang Tao) he is forced to leave the school. He then makes friends with (Kam Kong). That pretty girl (Hsai Kwan Li) is the same from her famous movie The Leg Fighters with Tan Tao Liang. At one point Chang must pass 3 tests in order to return home. "Lu Di Yan" (Chang Yi) as description emphasizes puts Chang to the test. Big fight at the end at Hsai's house. Like comments indicate much stick action as expected ! Look for Yu Chung Chui, Cliff Ching Ching & Man Man also for stars.

You know what is hilarious, all these non-chinese fans of kung fu movies who think the translation and dubbing is dumb, but actually, they are fairly accurate, that's how chinese people think and talk. It really is how chinese language works. It's funny.
@Aikunle782 жыл бұрын
I became a lay Sinologist because of Bruce Lee (李小龙) and an ample diet of all these Kung Fu movies. In fact, I will say more than half of these movies are based on historical accounts or a rendition of some historical event. I even watched an interview of an inheritor/follower of a long line of Hung Gar (洪家拳) practitioners relating to a true incident in the late Ch'ing dynasty (清代) during the Taiping Rebellion (another period of China's turbulent history) where a stick or pole fighter or similar gatecrashed an Hung Gar adherents gym and challenged the master or fighters there. The fight became bloody with the Hung Gar fighter being able to cut off the hand of the challenger who nevertheless kept fighting but lost consciousness sometime after due to blood loss. So the Hung Gar practitioner took the opportunity to cut off his head! Quite gruesome but makes you think, the themes of these movies aren't just pulled out of thin air, usually has some historical precedent. I believe Jesus Yeshua, his who he claimed to be. Seek the truth while it may be found.
@goognamgoognw66372 жыл бұрын
@@Aikunle78 thanks for the historically interesting story. I couldn't agree more. I did not realize during the many years that i marathon watched these old chinese kung fu flicks by the hundreds (i'd say close to a thousand) that i was impregnating myself deeply with chinese culture to a point that as a westerner i was able to feel and harmonize with chinese perception that even an occidental ambassador to say Shanghai felt incompetent to me. I litterally started to understand the chinese concept of the world and understood it better than even other non chinese asians. That wasn't even my goal, but it proves that these apparently superficial kf movies go deep into chinese life philosophy, it may look very cruel, rough, greedy, back stabbing, incredibly cunning and meticulate humility and self denial for a cause to a level unknown in the west. But having witnessed it deeply, i can know how a chinese feel when i guarrantee that no westerners does. This in fact is what started to fascinate me more and more is that by watching these movie i was diving deep into chinese psyche, deeper than any western course or spy immersion to China can match. It took me by surprise.
@Aikunle782 жыл бұрын
@@goognamgoognw6637 Interesting! Thanks for the info. I think that's more or less what has happened to me over the course of many many years watching these movies. I do see a correlation between a number of themes and characteristics within these movies and the Chinese psyche myself. And as you won't be surprised, I have more Chinese friends, well previously anyways as have become less social of recent years. I just find China and Chinese people as a whole quite fascinating and as some of them will claim, they are appreciably different to Japanese, Koreans and Vietnamese people, in general anyway. And I find the idea of losing faces so much infused into their thinking even in everyday situations. Something I noticed as well before (probably changed somewhat due to social media, the internet, and greater integration of different cultures), Chinese girls back tend hardly ever refuse you to your face haha. Yes, after many years of watching these movies, I went from perceiving most Chinese girls as looking the same to finding them very attractive. What you consume frequently absolutely changes ones mind mostly unconsciously. Oh back to the point I was making, I think it is because Chinese women back then instinctively feel to show overt dislike to a guy fascinated or that knows their culture is making them loose face? I am not really sure. In comparison, I found Japanese or Korean girls I approached had no issue ignoring me or telling me to get lost albeit not directly haha. Yeah, got so many anecdotes dealing with Chinese it just makes me more curious...
@goognamgoognw66372 жыл бұрын
@@Aikunle78 That's an enthralling conversation we can have. I hear you well. Regarding your open question, i think that culturally, chinese women are enthusiast to a non-chinese male partner whereas Korean and Japanese are absolutely opposed to it as a cultural interdiction that will get them ban socially and worse. I understand the self preservation of a culture and people. But Chinese women are different and It's not really promiscuity, as they really intend to settle and westerners that don't realize that can get themselves into an unpleasant troublesome situation with her relatives in fact just like in these kf movies. Once intimate with a chinese woman, the whole family is scrutinizing the suitor every moves and every act is taken as honor or dishonor to their whole family. Maybe that is the reason Chinese women do not hold back to tell if they like you because, there is no free ride, if you get inside the family circle, you are supposed to have taken a major engagement, that will be very tricky to get out of. Chinese guy know this so they don't give in easily to a chinese girl making sex appeal to them but Westerners aren't savvy. Also the Han are a matriarcal society especially Taiwanese. It's often an old woman that is the head of three generations living in the same large building. Koreans are completely different. It's a very strong patriarchal and herarchical society but one in which women have become more and more independent. The usa influence is clear and they openly reject foreigners for love. It is anathema to them, worse than taboo, it's unthinkable. Japanese, same. Vietnamese, are more like Chinese but i know them less.
