I do kendo and iaido, and we have 5 different kamae (stances): chudan (middle): water, gedan (low): Earth, jodan (high): fire, hasso (side): wood and waki (rear) metal. With chudan (water) you can both defend and attack. With jodan (fire), you offer up defense for attack speed. Withth hasso (wood), you can attack from 3 sides (downward, sideways, and upwards). With waki (metal) you hide the length of your blade, amd is strong in upward cuts. And i want to know more of the relationship between the stances and the elements

From my point of view, water here refers to fluidity, not just water. After heating the metal, the metal becomes fluid.

metal is in the sense of magnesium and other metals that aid in "feeding the water" or giving it its minerals. In this sense the metals or minerals in the earth feed the water in the world. Which in its turn feeds with that the wood or flora. Flora or wood makes something for fire to burn. Burnt wood makes coal and char which through layers and layers upon eachother create earth. so on and so on. Its called the mother child relationship cycle and says that the former feeds the latter.
