Vox is a great venue, you can go and see punk, metal, post punk, and other underground music. Not sure if it's still there, but around the corner is Wuhan Prison, a bar started by Wu Wei, that is a great place to go for drinks before or after the show.
@roundeyeshanghai2647 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, Vox is now in a shitty location in a mall a couple km down the street and has been redesigned to be a bit more commercial. It's no longer right around the corner from Prison. Prison is still there but it's definitely felt the impact of Vox's recent move. Wuwei of SMZB has fled the country due to the government crackdown on SMZB for the content of its most recent release. China's gonna China.

I wonder that too. During commie regime in Poland we had a similiar issue, police would see a punk kid and just beat him up. Now here you probably can get assassinated by being too punk i imagine, if you are a commercial artist i think, but I imagine that the underground scene is gigantic there so more amateur artists probably get to sing what they want, at least that's how I imagine it, never been to china lmao.

@@vivous6842 punk dies when the spirit dies, like when it became commercialized in the 90s. but ur also right, it was never about the sound, its about the values and ethos, the desire to subvert the "pop" of the time (60s guitar bands) with disruptive anti-establishment energy. punk's not shouted over, it simply migrated to indie, then to rap and noise. anywhere there are boundary pushers. dreamcrusher is punk. arca and noname are punk. independent rappers and DIY artists are punk. theres a surprising amount of punk in modern rap and pop.
