Not only is this level not a hell themed level, its also has a good theme throughout the level, starting out as a dark cave like area, then escaping into this nice beach environment filled with energy, slowly passing through the hours of the day as the level goes on, truly amazing. Also Zoink is crazy for verifying the top 3

Can't agree with you here. This level does something unique, in that it does not totally follow every generic norm we have set for decoration, and I love it for that. It's "flaws" are what make it so great and unique compared to almost every other level on the list, and even upcoming levels like APT, which just feel generic and samey with dark deco, common themes, boring gameplay, etc. I can tell a lot more care and love was put into this level rather than just trying to appease as large of an audience as possible and that is why I like it so much. Just my opinion on it.

there are three pretty big problems that i can see throughout this level, the first is a lack of pulsing/intensity as a lot of the intense parts are just... not intense, this to me seems like its caused by the fact that the level is almost always a static colour without major pulses (except for blending screen pulses but they arent as impactful as a block pulse could be). The second issue is a lack of depth, the blocks and the background are very similar in brightness throughout a majority of this level's playtime which makes it feel veeeery flat to me. The third big issue i see is that the blocks arent really that differentiated throughout the level, while yes the insides of the blocks do change, the structuring and colouring of the blocks is almost always the same, pretty much all of the block design is also a dark base block with complex bright shapes which can be really hard to differentiate even if they arent similar in shape. The structuring throughout the level is also very similar. this is (obviously) just my opinion though, i dont think the level is awful or anything, just very flawed

I can understand the criticism of the level but people do have to understand that it was a solo level, Oni didn't want to have the level obscure the gameplay (except for that one part), and that the background is "the same" because it's showing a day cycle. Does the sky in a clear day randomly switch around? No, of course not. I really like this level in terms of a top 1 as well because like others have said, it's not a hell themed level (even though those can be really sick), haven't seen really any beach themed levels in gd, and because to me (and maybe others idk) the level gives off the 'harder than it looks' vibe. Really happy to see this level out! GGs to the monster that is Zoink!

The theme is that you're going through everything ocean. The level includes a sandy beach, rocky beach, and underground water tunnels that are usually under cliffs at the edge of waters.

I personally love tidal wave for being one of the hardest demons ever and for it to have a bright blue color scheme and a bright beach atmosphere, and the moving structures during the wave are really simple but they’re really appealing to me. The ending sunset part is one of my favorites. I haven’t really played rocket league much but this level has found me a new favorite song!

My main issue with this level is at 4:17. I'm surprised you didn't bring it up, but the colours are a complete mess. The yellows are too saturated and they really clash with the blue. It just looks messy imo. The level probably has really good gameplay and it does tell a story. Not to mention that it's OniLink's first. However, I just do not get the extraordinary praise that this level gets at all. We've had plenty of levels that aren't red and black over the years. The song is amazing though and I think people are really biased because of that. Shiawase is a work of art.

I'm more on the disliking side when it comes to this level. I can't disagree with the fact that the theme is creative, unique, and certainly a breath of fresh air from all these hell-themed, dark and scary levels that are in the top 10, but it's really lacking in execution. The backgrounds are very plain and static, the transitions are dodgy, and some of the details are quite questionable imo (the spammed rotating objects, for example). I feel that this theme is awesome and should be explored further, but this level, in particular, isn't doing it really well.

im posting my writeup as a separate comment as i was writing this towards onilink but i want it to be more visible for people to share their thoughts on my vision of the level i'd love for people to come together to redeco tidal wave as a separate level so i wanna share my opinions on tidal wave to you instead of giving you hate because you really had it. i feel that you really have passion for the level, but imo ultimately the idea was there but the execution was not in terms of gameplay, the gameplay was prioritized over the decoration which is actually completely 100% fine with me I'd much rather have 100% gameplay & 50% deco than 100% deco & 0% gameplay, so that's already a step in the correct direction my biggest gripe is the background in the main parts of the level with the sun and the sand and the water etc. so instead of a static background, you could make it much more detailed and dynamic. e.g. the sun pulsing sunrays to the music, make the water more realistic like in terms of detail, think of how culuc made the clouds in the moon section of his part in emerald realm for example. it looks more realistic than the stock gd clouds. the stock gd clouds are not good in a detailed level like this. they should also prolly be moving slightly like wulzy said lol the water in the background should also have more detail put into it (referencing culuc's part in emerald realm again, like the water looks so good there) at 55% im not sure how to improve that but it is awkward-feeling. the gameplay is fine but the transition is weird imo. and the transition around 70% could use more thematic elements in its transition, maybe like dolphins jumping at an arc to be more dynamic? idk but you're the creator here lol honestly i feel like you should take some inspiration from high-detail creators like culuc but put your own spin on it the thing is that they dont rely that much on stock GD objects, like you did with tidal wave; well they do use stock GD objects but they use them in smart and creative ways the block design had a lot of possibilities for variation like seashells, fossils, mermaid scales, fish bones, etc. you were on the right track with the patterns though. in fact i think incorporating those may even use less objects too if you're smart with it (i think based on what you had you could def pull it off, because most of the deco was copy pasted it feels like so that could have added to the object count) you could have also incorporated things like palm trees or something instead of the fake spike deco spam in the foreground the colors used are what make tidal wave, well, tidal wave, so they're fine. the very strong contrast that people dont like is due to blue and yellow not being complementary though. orange and blue are, and violet and yellow are, but personally i have no issue with yellow and blue the sunset part is beautiful! tho again, the background needs work. i guess for a meme element you could have like a crab with sunglasses or something lol idfk and the end screen is good but again just needs that background to be more detailed and the font could use a touchup as well imo overall you still did great! there's always room to improve, even for the best creators i don't even create lol i just formulated this opinion based on what I feel like the level should have been based on your responses to criticism that I've seen, you don't deserve to get hate at all. you seem very receptive, which deserves respect! good luck on tsunami!

I still believe it is rate worthy personally, but I think anything else personally is pushing it. If it had a bit more polish and less copy paste it could be very good, but I think this is still very solid considering it is Onilinks first level

Weird how the 2 sections everyone complains about are both only around 3% of the level and the first one is just a black screen transition. The song cuts off most of the beat and the orbs match up with the vocal chops. I think that’s a beautiful way of matching the song. Crazy how high some people think the bar is for a feature just cause a simple transition is forbidden or there isn’t enough block movement in the 4x speed wave.

I personally think it just looks empty and unfinished. the designs are good and some things are incorporated well but it feels like something that's being played in ULDM. It also sort of feels like the level was just made with the gameplay in mind than they went "oh crap yeah this need decoration... and back grounds... oh shoot there should be effects and transitions too." rather than a full thought out level.
