Honestly, I know where Chidera is coming from and up until a few weeks ago I was in the exact same place. We share a similar experience in being oldest daughters in a Nigerian household. Our parents have made a multitude of mistakes and if we choose to have children we will also make a multitude of mistakes, and be responsible for someone else’s trauma. But as my parents get older I realized they posses the same humanity I do, and they are also fragile and feeble like I am. When we are kids we put our parents on a pedestal because it’s their job to love and protect us, forgetting they share the same imperfect humanity we do. Forgiveness is not the justification of right and wrong it is the expression of love despite right and wrong. I’d urge you to forgive but I have no knowledge of the trauma you faced and I won’t pretend to know your life experiences. Regardless you are loved and you are valued ❤️

only people who have cut off their parents will ever understand other people who have made the same decision, especially in the African community - love and solidarity to anyone else who's made that tough decision x
@misss90922 жыл бұрын
The part where she acknowledges that trauma is no excuse for a parent to hurt their child really resonated with me. For some reason, whenever someone, including a family member behaves in a toxic way, the behaviour is encouraged through criticism by other family members when you decide not to talk to that toxic family member and you’re blamed for their behaviour in the first place. If we start holding toxic behaviour to account, then maybe we’d live in a much kinder world.

"the idea that women can hold resentment towards their oppressor is somehow worse than the oppression itself" that's the best thing I've heard ever

The conversation about childhood triggered a healing process in me. I can so relate to having to lie a lot as a child just to do things like meet friends to play etc. It mixed up my self perception, self-worth and my understanding of the agency I have in this life. It left me paralyzed and incredibly scared of the world and hearing her response to that kind of upbringing just showed me that there is another way I can process this experience and also that I do have the power to decide my narrative. So grateful to have access to this conversation ❤️❤️

I’m just finding this interview and The Slumflower now…bravo to this girl! A firm head on her shoulders with her own thoughts and ideas. The portion about men - society loves for black women to have no standards - especially black men because they benefit from it. All women should have standards but especially black women. BW deserve relationships that are balanced, stable and beneficial for US and however that looks for you. Whether it be financial support or otherwise, women of other groups have had this for an eternity (not saying it’s perfect, no man is perfect but other communities have better structures in place for women/children) yet black men have missed this point. May your heels be high and your standards be higher!!!

My daughter suggested this video...I am so glad I viewed; so much inspiration and genuineness! A great wealth of information regarding the current realities Black women are and the Black community is subjected to within various industries and worldwide oppression. Yes, I said it! There are so many quiet voices that have been bought and paid for, hiding in the ugly hypocrisy of being black but actively supporting oppression - just going along (with oppression) to get along (receiving crumbs of opportunity).

the interviewer had some really antagonizing questions and wouldn't let her finish. i found it disrespectful her response to Chidera's relationship to her mother. like lets not project our home situations on to another's and then shocked when they dont agree with you.

i think she asked the questions alot of us (especially black women) would naturally be intrigued about, its not always about being overly polite when we're trying to really understand

I feel like she understands perfectly because honestly her childhood sounds worse. I think the shock came in because she couldn't believe Chidera would even be brave enough to cut her mum off and face black society's wrath. I feel she was somewhat in awe. I wish we had got to hear about her relationship with her father.

It felt like Wunmi was more interested in getting the tea … idk and her pushing her narrative about forgiveness and Chidera’s relationship with her mom was so tone deaf to me smh
@zipitzizzy24427 ай бұрын
Yeah, I literally had to stop watching the video because her energy is awful and it feels like she's just giving her space to talk so she collect information and be the one to say she received access to someone who protects and guards herself from people exactly like her. Like she kept interrupting or waiting for Chidera to finish answering before moving onto the next question without being inquisitive or even responding to the answers Chidera gave her. And emphasis on 'answers' because it literally feels like she's just syphoning info out of her.

Slumflower has so somany admirable traits and quite an inspiring story but dang girl she's never acknowledged the many times she's been called out for directly copying the works, words and ideas of others. Every other year there's been an exposure with plain evidence of blatant plagiarism. It's a feat she's able to continue this crusade against the other girl. The irony isn't lost on many.
