@@MuShinMartialCulture I just looked it up. I was hoping it was a Chinese movie. I don't like Charlton Heston.

@@ambulocetusnatans The film with the use of the Deer Horn Knives is called The Final Master. It is a Chinese film. It is about a WingChun Master and at the end of the film he fights masters from different styles and they are armed with an assortment of weapons.

Great video, however, it is doubtful that Baguaznang can be considered a "Martial Art".

Can you please elaborate?
@Dimmo37

@@JasonJrake The style is based upon a Daoist meditative and ritual practices (like circumambulation) and not an actual combat methodology; it was later "adapted" to that end. Its forms and movements are quite abstract and do not look like have anything to do with combat whatsoever. And they don't, unless it is a highly stylized combat choreography or dance. It is like taking the whirling dervishes dance and try to use it in a fight. It is silly, isn't it? Many people fail to realize that Chinese martial stories are fiction and not a fact!

@@Dimmo37 My teacher is 4th generation, his teacher studied with a student of Dong Haichuan. He himself worked in the security field, and so have many of my martial uncles. Its a martial art. It has many aspects, but its a martial art.

@@MuShinMartialCulture Yes I know, but your teacher GM Di Guoyong is one of the greatest living Xingyi masters. I bet his fighting skills come from his Xingyi rather then his Bagua:)

@@Dimmo37my understanding is that Bagua-Zhang practitioners know this. The founder allegedly took a Taoist moving meditation practice and grafted various martial arts methods onto it. In that sense it never claimed to be “just” a style, but a family of styles. It’s sort of like how there are “MMA” versions of most martial arts now, focusing on what works in UFC style cage matches. In another decade we might see a formalized family of these older arts that are related by how they changed from their origins, rather than having origins in common. As for parts being “made up,” I agree with the “possible origins” theory (and book of the same name) that a lot of martial arts origin stories and techniques are influenced by stage drama, but we have photographs, buildings, and written records for over 100 years of Bagua and Hsing-Yi schools, competitions, and curriculum…not to mention testimony of living students. They may repeat some legends they learned at school, but they can accurately convey their own experiences being students too… And there were clearly a bunch of Chinese people training in a variety of martial arts, including a whole bunch of them called “Bagua” styles because of their shared training methods and theories of human kinetics. Regardless of the accuracy of the history of these arts before then, they are distinct and full arts now.
