I was in the Oklahoma All Star Marching Band 1982, when Jay Bocook wrote and dedicated this tune to our band. . . . . . R.I.P. "Coach" Gene Thrailkill, Director.

Played it with the San Diego State University Marching AZTECS in 1982 when it first came out. Nice tempo (about what we played it at), but this is the first time Ive ever heard it with a key change in the last statement.

I know there have been other watered down arrangements. But this one, moves up a step and it sounds like the ending was redone. I wonder if Jay did this ? ? still a fine tune !

elloimbrittney The Madison Scouts did this song and their drills have a lot of "follow the leader" moves in it... which explains why this band has a lot of forward marching, but they weren't all forward marching the whole time. This song is a latin style, though, which is why there is a big lead in the trumpet line. If you've ever seen a latin themed show or heard latin music, trumpets play a huge role... very similar to the way saxophones play a huge role in jazz. I do agree, though, that the trumpets were just kinda blaring it. On the other hand, that's just what trumpets do. Haha:) Hope I helped.

What year did the Madison Scouts play Aztec Fire?
@VKDM86872 жыл бұрын
@@baltimorearts Madison NEVER played "Aztec Fire". I guarantee that.
@baltimorearts2 жыл бұрын
@@VKDM8687 I did not think so, hence my question.

Madison never played Aztec Fire....NO drum corps would play a "canned" piece....all their music is custom arranged. You might be thinking of Malaguena, which Madison HAS played numerous times, but again, a custom arrangement (espsecially pre-2000 when all the brass was in the key of G)

I had to play the level 3 version of this sheet in sophomore year. To say the least, I was sad we didn't have it at a higher difficulty.

This is really interesting.. Why where the marchers forward marching the whole time? So much turning. Trumpets.. just because you can play loudly doesn't mean you should.. through out the whole piece. I'm sorry but the ending sucked. The last, what, 4 to 5 measures? Hold out that note if you're going to play so loudly that everyone can hear you don't take a breath then make it obvious that you took a breath. Just don't play that loudly to begin with. Did this even make it to area?

My high school band can play this better than they can... thats very sad...
