The slow motion kind of killed the snappiest parts of the drill :(
@GrahamWalters7 жыл бұрын
A lot of that drill is reminiscent of what we were doing with SLR's at HMS Raleigh in 1975, so things hadn't changed that much. It must have rained while shooting, because the lad on the right is wearing cavalry trousers one minute, then standard trousers, then back into cavalry trousers. Congratulations on beinging history to life in such a real way.

The place they are standing starts dry, gets wet and dries out over the video, as well.

The voice is not copied, these guys work at Fort Rinella. This video is a promotional video we have made the people who work in the Fort. The other video called Victorian infantry drill is a visitor that came to our Fort and he recorded and posted in his KZbin profile. That's why the voice is the same and some of the guys are also the same. Fort Rinella is a live museum in Malta. We receive thousands of visitors every year and some of them they post our displays. Here some information about us www.fortrinella.com

Looks pretty good! Might need to snug up some of those belts, though, so the bayonets aren't causing excessive "droop" at the rear.

Great job guys, but you guys are doing a lot of rifle regiment drill, which is different from standard infantry drill. Stuff like the change arms and the shoulder arms were rarely, if ever, done by standard infantrymen. You guys look really good, but just thought I'd point it out for accuracy's sake.

Learned to arms drill with the Lee Enfield with the Irish reserves in 1989 before we switched to FN-FAL, arms drill was a little different but instructions were in Irish.

White Lanyards Normally are worn by the Royal Artillery. Since it is a Fort were the garrison troops originally Garrison Artillery or Royal Marines since Malta was an Important Naval base? Which might explain the shuffle of feet rather than the stamping of feet more normally expected of line infantry.
@stevetheduck14252 жыл бұрын
Garrison or fortress defence troops were often fencibles or auxiliaries; they may have been doing the light infantry version of most drill moves, with less noise. There used to be a joke that the Brigade of Guards did a present arms: 'SLAP, SLAP, CRASH' as the rifle butts hit the ground, ruining their sight set-ups, while the Rifle Corps, Regiment or Brigade would present arms 'slap, slap, jingle', the last being all the medals... ;-)

Less goose stepping and more slow marching. Your foot is supposed to glide across the ground. Don't lock your toe upwards like a Prussian
@Marco-bf4uu5 жыл бұрын
We lock our toe to the ground. The slow march is based on our paradestep.
@Englishkin3 жыл бұрын
The slow step is, essentially, English (and American) goosestep. They all have their origins in 18th Century drill.

@TheJamieGair7 жыл бұрын
On the whole it's pretty good but some of the movements are more light infantry rather than all arms, at the start of the double time mark time the right marker is out of step and also issues with keeping step throughout. Plus your timings are rather fast in my opinion, it looks to me like your movements are rushed and don't have the panache that is symbolic of the British army
@LordWellington1007 жыл бұрын
Movement from slope to order was wrong and was done in 3 movements
@stevetheduck14252 жыл бұрын
There have been several variations in those moves, sometimes depending on arm-of-service, and they changed again going to the SLR rifle, and again going to the L85.

@stevetheduck14252 жыл бұрын
Drill instructor English is another sub-set of the mother tongue, specialised, the sounds chosen because they don't sound like other words, so orders are unmistakeable. In it's way it's like code-phrases, football play calls and the phonetic alphabet.
