This Video: The Avro Anson is a British twin-engined, multi-role aircraft that played a significant role during World War II. Initially designed in the 1930s for maritime reconnaissance, it was one of the first aircraft in the Royal Air Force (RAF) to feature a retractable undercarriage, flaps, and a turret. Named after Admiral George Anson, the Avro Anson was a product of the Avro aviation company, famous for the legendary Lancaster bomber.

She’s so homely she’s cute. Didn’t know there were any airworthy Ansons left. Great presentation.

My father bought an Anson from the commonwealth training base in Weyburn Saskatchewan Canada after the war. He towed it home backwards in the back of a grain truck.I still have cans of nuts and bolts kicking around my garage and we used the fuel tanks for rafts on the pond, the tail as a metal rack and the tail wheel was made into a wheelbarrow.

The Western Development Museum in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan has an Anson Mk1 on display using the tires and main struts from my father's plane. Watch Russell Crowe in "For the Moment" which spotlights the aircraft and pilots in the Commonwealth training program.

My father loved the Anson. From NZ he did his navigator training in canada in these. I wish he were alive today to see this one flying and getting the love it deserves.

Wow theres a surviving flying Anson bomber! It was named after Admiral George Anson, a question I had that was just answered. Very nice to see it I hope it is still doing its thing.

Nice video footage. I saw this plane over Welshpool quite a while ago. I only had my mobile phone with me but got a couple of pics, but it was too blurred to tell what it was. Today, 6th June 24, it flew over my house twice, once on its way toward the Welsh border, and again on the way to Shrewsbury. It had invasion stripes on the wings and under the fuselage before the tail wheel. Love the sound of WW2 aircraft and kudos to all those keeping them in the air, gound personel and pilots.

You wouldn't have seen *this* aircraft near Welshpool, as it's actually based in New Zealand! ;-)
