For propaganda , German photographers would film U boat crews before they left on a mission. That way the crew would look fresh, alive and clean shaven awake.

There isn't much information on KM footwear online, that I've found at least. Uboat crews were issued canvas plimsolls, but according to some these were also issued to surface sailors. Variants of the M37 lowboot were worn as well, however whether they were hobnailed or not is unspecified. I'd imagine not, as wearing hobnailed boots on a ship is a recipe for disaster. Jackboots are much the same, and once again I'd imagine they had rubber soles. Another commenter already mentioned wellington boots, these were present as well. And finally we get to the least satisfying and most unclear answer. Uboat crews were afforded many civilian comforts and clothing items that their surface ship and serving kameraden were not. It's not out of the realm of possibility that a sailor might bring his own wet weather gear from home. Overall, this is a spectacular impression and is much more interesting than the usual fare of reenacting content on youtube. That original leather jacket is fantastic, it's a shame about the original life jacket though. Anyways, I'm just an SS/Heer reenactor with a passing interest in naval history, not an authority on this stuff by any means, but I'd love to know more as well.

Hi, a great video to watch. Just one thing, the darkened goggles would be worn on the sub at night, just before surfacing to acclimatise the eyes to the dark conditions on the surface.

Excellent impression & video :) very nice kit! I scored a reefer-type jacket from a private seller in Germany and went for the FAB cap too. Found the removable white cover as well in Hamburg! Although I was trying to locate the similar jacket & cap worn by my g.uncle during his time then I also found a flotilla badge, the same type he wore on his cap, from Kent too! Very happy of that. Once again, superb video and really appreciate the efforts you’ve gone too to get this right:) I wish he and they were around to see this stuff

They were issued sea boots which were identical to jackboots but had rubber soles. Nice collection!

the panzer boots are the closest thing i can think of that resembles kriegsmarine boots, they didnt wear studded boots as that'd damage the deck

@@magicmanta5968 you’re, I missed that. Basing an impression can mean many things. Looking at multiple photos of Kapitän Leutnant‘s, you see many having blue caps. Example: Helmut Rosenbaum, Herbert Sohler, Fritz Julius Lemp

Most likely they are just regular civilian suspenders that you can just buy on eBay If you don't want to go on eBay and get civilian suspenders you can go to at the front they sell field grade suspenders which most people use those
