Aussie combat vet By all accounts he should’ve been awarded 3 but the brass wouldn’t sign off on it. Constantly went into action not wearing a helmet with his service issue.38 revolver & a bag of frags.🇦🇺🇺🇸

@@2eREPPARA he did seem like he was a fan of grenades. After he was released from his POW camp, he stole an American uniform, grenades, and a rifle. And he stayed with an American unit, trying to get some more action. He was a legend.

Where does a soldier, or a leader find strength against insurmountable odds? There are many places, many reserves to draw from. However knowing what I know of this man in particular, I would think it was from a place as simple as, "My men(mates) are in danger!" If you watch the "This is your life" episode on him made by NZ television in the '80's, you can see it plain as day. The way he casts his eyes down when someone is banging on about his achievements, measured against the way his face lights up when he sees the men he served with. He was an absolutely amazing and humble man. A true hero.

The Victoria Cross was originally intended to be an order of chivalry which meant that until,IIRC the 1920s you could have it removed if you committed a criminal conviction. After this, the rules were changed and those who had been stripped of this decoration had them returned.

VC usually means that the things you do have "butterfly effect". Personal courage not only makes someones to follow you, but the thing you did spreads among all front and gives them all "if he can do it - I will also" . It may also make an effect to upshot of the campaingn, turning the possible retreat to victory at minimum loss of lives,

THIS is awesome! The only thing that will be eqivalent will be the german Knights Cross, the highest Medal of Honor during WWII. There was another promotion, that added an Oak Leave to the cross, then a third which added swords, and a forth, that added diamonds (which were added in the Oak leves). These were absolutely rare!
