Boy-that's a wonderful historical, huge project....what on honor, it must be saved!

Looks fantastic .. Theres an old American Base , now an industrial park down here on the South coast that was used prior to D day .. When they left , the Americans used a Dragline excavator an basically buried a load of Shermans Jeeps and half tracks rather than take them back home to the States.. They also buried a load of Ordenance along side ...

Wouldn’t that be amazing to dig them up 😮👍

Is this anywhere near Portsmouth by per chance? as one of my friends father (I grew up in Gosport) told a story that at the end of WW2 at the back of Portsdown hill (he lived in Southwick) when the american forces left, large amounts of equipment (Harley Davidsons, jeeps, trucks, tracked vehicles etc.) were buried in large trenches and apparently the tunnels/staircases that joined the palmerston forts (Wallington, Southwick,, Widley and Purbrook) much of the equipment was dumped in as it was deemed not worth repatriating back to the U.S.

This sort of thing was fairly common at the end of the war,,my uncle served in fleet air arm and he told a story were they literally dumped aircraft over the side of the ship into the sea 😮

My father was a child during WW2 and I recall him talking about how after the war the Americans dug holes in land across the road from where he lived in Brisbane Australia and drove trucks and all sorts of gear into the holes and buried the lot. I believe Toombul Shopping Town is now on that site.

For 70+ years buried, that is in fantastic condition when you remember that it didn`t have the thick armour of a tank.

This is really odd. A few days back i was looking for an update on this. Well done guys. She is really looking good for her age.

Looks pretty good really, they are a good looking machine. Lucky here in australia as they were sold off in the 60s, and survive in good numbers in various conditions, went for a ride in one a few years back, those machine certainly make a rackets cruising along on a lake, there was one down our back beach years back, it was being used for some beach reclamation work, the large cargo area in the back was taken up with a diesel fuel tank.

Wow that sounds really cool to have had a ride in one , I really hope funds can be found to get this one back to its former glory

Please please please ! can you tell me where I can go to see this ❤❤❤ I’m a born and bred yellow belly. I showed my 84 year old mother this video and she remembers hearing about the tanks being buried when she was only six years old. I’d love to be able to take her to see it.

Currently the Buffalo is in storage and being restored at facility close to where it was recovered. There are plans for a museum to house her but I’m not sure how long that would be before it will be on show . There is a local military show every year at Thorney close to crowland that if you attend you would be able to speak with the team who unearthed the buffalo as they do put on an information and fund raising stand at the show,

Rare machine . I think "ADAMS" made a model kit of it in the 50's . "Italeri" did / does a model kit of it ,too

Are there any plans to unearth the other ones that are still buried?

The machine is in great condition. It will look even better when it’s finished. The one thing I don’t understand is , why were they buried, when metal was precious commodity in war time. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
@alfiedog29428 ай бұрын
These were surplus equipment that would have been just sitting around owned by the MOD and this all happened in 1947 , thank you for your interest

Metal is a precious commodity in wartime and a waste disposal problem afterwards.

Hopefully it can be preservative to running condition! But why was it burried?
@alfiedog29424 ай бұрын
It was buried along with several other buffaloes to form a barrier against the flood waters

The RN LVT1's would have had Polson cannons on the crew cabin top.

Interesting you mention that because this had a larger gun on the front that Daniel mentions and I do have photos of the mount that I will show in the second video, thanks for watching

These were used primarily to cross the big European rivers like the Rhine.

Why the fast gallop through slides with captions and illustrations with texts? Too fast to read comfortably without constant Pause>Start>Pause>Start...
