Those ammo clips are for the 8x56mm Steyr-Manlicher M-1895/30 rifle, I have a couple boxes of live rounds in storage somewhere. As far as I know the 8x56 cartridges were the only ones to be stamped with a Reichsadler head stamp, and that may have only been done for a couple years around 1938. Those rifles were all captured from Austria and primarily issued to police and guard units as I understand

I've not seen much from the southern flank. So much of history focuses on the east and west fronts, it is good to see and know about the southern front.

I had a mannlicher carbine that took those clips, i still have 2 of the clips new in the box from the 1930s. The original ammunition was 8×50 mm, rimmed ,and bottlenosed ( round) but after the anschluss, the Reich rebarreled the mannlichers for a new 8×56mm pointed " spitzer" bullet which was more modern, but still a rimmed casing. Theres still many of these rifles and carbines in both calibers out there.

9:00 Oh wow, that's from Hungarian tank ammunition 42/38M, "hk" stands for "harckocsi", which means tank. This was the ammo of the Turán tank. The Mannlicher clips are possibly also hungarian, as an upgraded version of the rifle was the most frequently used infantry weapon of Hungary during the second world war. Many Hungarian divisions fought along with the Germans till the end, and also many of them had the goal to just reach Austria, and go to US captivity, not Soviet.

Nice video Mike on an interesting site. I guess the shell case you found would have had an embossed WW2 German eagle on it if it was a German one, rather than the Hungarian one it actually turned out to be. 😊
