( 2 )The operation started on 8 September. It took the Soviets three days to take Krosno (it was captured on 11 September). One of the biggest battles in the pass took place on and around Hill 534 in the northwest from the town of Dukla; the battle to capture this hill lasted from 10-20 September, and during that period the control of the hill changed more than 20 times. The town of Dukla was seized on 21 September.

The reason this movie looks so good is because it was still not too long after WW2, so they had a lot of authentic german/soviet machinery lying around that could be used, which made the movie feel realistic. Also you see that PAK getting rolled over by a T34? That was a real PAK as well. They had so many historical leftovers, they could even destroy them like this - for movie artistic purposes of course. :D

I truly adore the fact that either Nazi-supporters, sympathizers whichever truly have the time and redundancy to come and comment on which is obviously a propagandistic film. However, propaganda or not, it captures the sense of war. You say “oh yeah, but the soviets lost this many men” or a overused statement I’ve seen, “German weapons can destroy the soviet hordes”. Yes, the Soviets may of lost thousands of men however, you’re speaking about an army that has millions and millions in reserves. For ever Soviet soldier that died in WWII, there would be 10 more to replace him. So, no matter how many you kill. The ending result would still be a Soviet victory. Same goes for Vietnam, American historians say that the US won from the amount of Vietcong they killed. Which is obviously a redundant statement because, yes. You killed multiple Vietnamese soldiers, but the country is still ultimately communist. Also considered the US used multiple illegal tactics, such as spraying Agent Orange over the jungles, causing massive sickness and deformities in future generations of Vietnamese peoples. Which is ironic because, when the Soviets invaded Finland in 1939. They were kicked off the League of Nations, (The UN at the time) . But when the US sprays a country with chemicals and gases, it’s bluffed off as in the name of the good cause and democracy. The US lost the Vietnam war because their primary objective was to keep Vietnam a non-communist state, for which failed.

Soviets had better enginering in war than germans,problem was not all soviet pilots pr soldiers were that experienced as the regular ones of WW1 and Rus civil war....germans usually changed their MP40 for a good PPSH-41 or even capturing soviet tanks and lots of ammo and new tech. US did not killed so many as they say,technically when they have come to vietnam war in 1968 the war already have 1,6million vietnamese deaths...US did lost more aircraft power than any other faction in that war,losing about 9k aircraft vehicles and parts...losing tons of ammo and even using Agent orange in their own men

ok, sorry, maybe i said wrong: it wasn't designed special for street fights however the tank was best used in town fights. So that wasn't bad tank for western front but wasn't good choice for eastern front. Another weakness was The dual torsion bar system which easily clogged with dirt, was hard to repair, and in extremely cold conditions wheels froze to each other. Actually good tank to use on eastern front should be light not to get stuck in mud. Also the best tank to compare with panther -T44

"Also panther was designed mainly for town fights in the narrow streets" Wrong, the Panther was designed for the large open spaces of the Russian front, that's why it was given strong frontal armor and a long high velocity gun, if it had been designed for town fighting it would have a short low velocity gun for firing high explosives into buildings like the Brummbar.

( 4 ) South of the pass and directly west of the village of Dobroslava lies an area which has come to be known as the "Valley of Death". Here Soviet and German armor clashed in a miniature reenactment of the great tank battle of Kursk. Soviet and Czechoslovak forces would enter Svidník on 28 October. A major German fortified position near the pass, Hill 532 "Obšár", would be secured as late as on 25 November 1944.

Panzerfaust, 88s and anti-tank mines could also destroy them - but that is why you didn't just send tanks into the frontline. You had to send in infantry, use artillery and hopefully have airpower available. A good assault would have a mix of different specialists/technologies to maximize the effect. German tanks certainly were tougher but were expensive to make and took forever to make them. They also lacked some of the road performance that T-34s had and didn't perform as well in winter.

It depends on what you mean by better, as far as i know the German Army was the best trained army of WW2, it had innovations that other armies did not have, especially the front line officers, all the officers in a German unit were trained to take the position of any officer that had been killed or wounded, however the Russians had the advantage of numbers so they could afford to lose more men which meant the men didn't have to be as good.

I disagree, the worst environment for any armored fighting vehicle is in an urban setting, because the buildings allow good cover for anti tank infantry to get close enough to use bazookas and AT grenades. However, in urban terrain, any AFV with a short barrelled low velocity gun will have an advantage over long barrelled high velocity gun like the Panther has, so it is best for long range anti tank work and not short range anti infantry work.in streets.
@bazeye12 жыл бұрын
No one is comparing the Brummbar to the Panther, or saying the Brummbar is a tank, all i said was the Brummbar was designed for street fighting, and the Panther was designed for long range anti tank work in open ground.

It wasn't, also panther was medium tank in German documentation In fact it was heavy tank, much heavier then any other medium tank of any other faction (like Sherman or T-34). Also panther was designed mainly for town fights in the narrow streets - it has great frontal armour,but vulnerable from the flanks. That's why this tank wasn't effective in fast frontal assaults on open fields-there always was high risk to be destroyed by AT soldier left behind.But anyway panther is my favourite WW2 tank

The panther was suggested and is the best tank of ww2, narrow for the streets and has a 75mm gun with slopped armour deflecting at shells and could go a fair speed it's just the came in 1944 so not a good amount were produced, if they were produced earlier like in the attack on Stalingrad or operation Uranus that could have changed the war or held off the enemy more and changed the battle of kursk or Minsk

What is great about this film - was that when it was made - they still had all kinds of actual German equipment around - and you can see it in these films. And of course - skads of T-34/85's and Lend Lease American Trucks and Jeeps. That is what's great about this movie and the reason for watching it - if you're the kind of person that gets something out of watching *_REAL_* German WWII Equipment. .
