It's a 20 minute physical performance with a scripted ending between two stuntmen who are trying not to hurt each other, openly knowing they're both going to get hurt. I don't understand why that's hard to understand for non-fans. Stuntmen is probably the most accurate comparison, except stuntmen get as many takes as they need. Pro wrestlers get one take in front of millions of people.

Some of the concussion stories in wrestling are crazy. Because it wipes memory from before and after the impact. You have guys finish the match, go backstage, get changed go home, and all of a sudden the autopilot stops and they come back to reality and think where am I? They have no memory of anything from that day. One minute they're at home eating or something and now they're home again only an entire day has passed and they've had a huge match. And those are the lucky ones. RVD said from his perspective one time he went to sleep just like a normal evening and then wakes up still thinking he's in bed, rolls over and realizes he's on the mat in the middle of a match and has zero idea about what happened in the last 12 hours 🤯

I watched wrestling for the first time in 1968, it was televised live out of a small studio in Pensacola florida, it was a match between cowboy Bob Kelly and someone... I became a fan of Kelly from that moment on and have enjoyed watching ever since.. from the local show, to the VonErics out of Texas to mid south, to WCW to WWE .. I never once thought it was anything but a sporting entertainment. It was obvious to me even as a young teen that these were preplanned matches I really only had to watch 1 of the 2 and 7/8's counts.. see the ref stop counting just before the shoulders came up.. ahhah.. so just watch and enjoy it for what it is. These men and women risk their bodies to entertain us..

i love going to my local wrestling shows. When they do their bear-bones no cushion matches. Its just the wood frame, steel beams, and the rope. Its almost to insane to watch. These guys/ladies, but so much work into this. Its an amazing art form.

Even non wrestling fans who at least really cared about that question should have knonw by know that the outcome of a match and who goes against who und certain thing that happen are scripted. BUT, and that part is important: The sportly effort and the risk to get injured is very real. This discussion is even more mind boggling if you consider that everybody and their mothers know that movies are scripted still stunt man (nowadays maybe less because of CGI) are used because in certain action scenes is a risk that the actor could get hurt, even very seriously. But no one has ever questioned it, yet they do it with wrestling, even when the 4th wall get it's first cracks, which started many years ago! There are actor who do their stunts themlsefs. I would say that Jaccky Chan is The actor if it comes to this. And once asked about it and how risky it is he once said something like: There is no bone in my body that got not broken during my movies, some bones even several times!

I used to really like it under Vince McMahon (and yes Wrestlemania was still Vince McMahon) but since then I don’t know, it looks incredibly fake when HHH has so many women on tv, like 5 of them beat up Rhea Ripley with a baseball bat and she pretended to be hurt for 2 seconds then beat them all up. Then they all waited around 10 minutes for Tiffany Stratton to do some gymnastics thing. Plus the storylines are really slow now and they repeat the same thing for 8 weeks straight before slowly moving to the next part of the story. I preferred it before when it was unpredictable and exciting and the women were more entertaining rather than trying to be taken seriously as wrestlers. Trish and the Bellas were far more successful than Rhea Ripley.

Today with pro wrestling being open that it is a performance, I don't get why people have such a hard time digesting that it's like a very very physical theatrical performance with a story. It's like a stage for pro athletic stunts people to put on a show and suspend belief just like how we watch a movie or theater. You don't see theater actors reminding the people during a play that this isn't real, it's only a play! Is it a sport? No, because that would mean this is a real unscripted competition.
