The wrestling match is the payoff. The promoter has to do something to get the fan to get invested in the match. A storyline leads to a payoff. That’s where promoters have been failing for years.

I could have done without seeing Bischoff in NXT. Nobody in the live audience seemed to care much, either. This last NXT episode was one of the worst. And in general, NXT is my favorite wrestling show, in spite of the cringe segments; for example, the really bad "romantic" one involving Adonis and Karmen Petrovic. Also in spite of the fact that Jacy Jayne and Cora Jade have been booked as jobbers. They're much better than that.
