WWII to Solidarity in Gdansk, Poland

In December 2023 and January 2024 we spent two weeks in Gdansk, Poland. We had a great time exploring the city and loved our time there. While there we visited several museums. This video contains images and information from our visits to the World War II museum, the European Solidarity Center, and Sala BHP.
WORLD WAR II MUSEUM
Separated into three blocks; The Road to War, The Horror of War, and The Long Shadow of War, the World War II Museum in Gdansk presents the Polish experience of the war within the broader European and global context
BLOCK 1 - The Road to War: Genesis of the conflict Discussions on the forces striving to overthrow the Versailles order around the world. These include the rise of Nazism, Italian fascism, communism and Japanese imperialism and how these ideologies brutalized politics, influences the consciousness of people of that time and paved the way to World War II.
BLOCK 2 - The Horror of War: The fate of ordinary people Discussions of the war through the prism of the fate of soldiers, prisoners of war, camp prisoners, forced laborers, and civilians.
BLOCK 3 - The Long Shadow of War: The end of the war Discussions of the fall of the Third Reich, the liberation of Europe, the subordination of the Soviet Union, the United States atomic bombings on Japan, and the consequences of the war.
EUROPEAN SOLIDARITY CENTER
The European Solidarity Center opened in 2014 and details the anti-authoritarian social movement in postwar Communist Poland. Meant to evoke ships under construction, the building façade is made up of rusty steel plates. It walks visitors through the rise and evolution of the Solidarity movement across various exhibition halls.
SALA BHP
Sala BHP Hall is where the Inter-Enterprise Strike Committee (MKS) and the Governmental Commission negotiations were held, resulting in the Gdańsk Agreement, in the summer of 1980. This agreement led to the establishment of Solidarity. The hall is a symbol of fight against communism.
On December 6, 1999, Sala BHP Hall was added to the list of historic buildings and in 2004.
