@leamanc15 күн бұрын
@@markjohnstonofficialThe Mascis has a Tune-o-Matic style bridge, so the Belrok would not be a drop-in replacement. At a minimum, one would need conversion thimbles. Either way, it would involve a lot of monkeying around because the stock Mascis bridge sits up higher than a standard offset bridge.

$195 is not too bad, compared to other high-end replacements. But are any of them truly worth it? I just put a $25 Kaish bridge in my parts Jag and I’m really impressed with the crunchy tone it offers for so little money.
@gringogreen471910 күн бұрын
Kaish does make good stuff, no doubt about it. Do higher end bridges make a difference? Yes and no. The "No" is that you probably would not hear it in a mix or live. The yes part is that you are fighting over minute changes in frequencies so difference designs and materials can yield different results. I would venture to say that it would be more of a "Feel" difference with some audible differences. It also depends on gauge and quality of strings too, so great strings with a great bridge, you will feel and hear a difference. Keep in mind you want thicker strings for Offsets and right now I have a D'Addario NYXL on my Viper (yes, it's an Offset and I had a Bigsby installed) with 11s and on my Xaviere JT 100 (my first real dive into the Offset pool) I have String joy 12s on that one. Eventually I am going with Haylon for that guitar for a bridge and Trem. The other thing you may want to try for an Offset bridge is Tusq makes Mustang saddles with their nut and string tree material. As far as Offset parts go it's not too expensive. I also compare these to Fender parts and prices so it's definitely affordable compared to Haylon or Mastery replacements. I do use Kaish in my Import Strat and Tele shaped guitars. Mainly I use their switches as well as JD Moon for the Les Paul style toggles. I can recommend both brands. I use the Kaish because the Fender Grigsby style switch is usually too deep for Import cavities. I can also recommend Wilkinson and Gotoh as fantastic bridge replacements that are not too expensive but definitely a step up from OEM Import bridges.

@JohnnyArtPavlou13 күн бұрын
Just thinking through this thing… And I’m sure it doesn’t make that much of a difference, but even though each of those pieces together, defined a fixed radius… The actual working radius will be plus or minus a teeny little bit, depending on how you actually set the intonation. Well… Maybe not the radius, but the string height, of course and then, of course you can lower the entire bridge to compensate for that. I mean the difference is, I’m talking about a pretty negligible given the general intonation problems that are inherent to guitars anyway.

I’ve tried a lot of different bridges on my offsets. So far my favorites are the Halon and the Descendant Companion bridge. This Belrok sounds really good though. I like the simple two saddle design with full contact between the base plate and saddles. Might have to try one. The only thing I don’t love is the shape of the base plate. It looks a little too industrial and a bit out of place on an offset body imo. They should round the edges of the base plate to match the ends of the saddles.
@jamescovan885316 күн бұрын
You could always round off the edges yourself. Maybe giving you corners you can take off offers more customization than the other way around... Although there could have been a reason they went that way from an engineering standpoint.

The differences are subtle but I can pick them out pretty clearly. If you can’t I don’t know what to tell you other than “it’s a bold take to assert that changing the bridge on a guitar won’t change the tone”
@BoojayDeeth11 күн бұрын
@@markjohnstonofficial One should never underestimate the power of confirmation bias. I don't think it's bold at all to say the bridge won't change the tone characteristics of a pick up in an electric guitar. To claim otherwise demonstrates a failure to understand how magnetic pick ups actually work. But I do accept that without tone chasing "woo woo" the majority of channels would have nothing to talk about.
@markjohnstonofficial11 күн бұрын
I’d encourage you to go listen to Puisheens comparison of the stock and mastery bridges in his Harmony if you think there’s no tonal difference. I’ve done blind tests on those samples and gotten it right; it’s a noticeable difference. Claiming that the materials or design of a bridge don’t impact tone is like claiming that the break angle won’t. Is it the same severity as changing picks up? Not remotely. Can these things make a difference? Absolutely.
@BoojayDeeth11 күн бұрын
@@markjohnstonofficial To be clear my comment is not that there is zero difference (perhaps a very small variance), but that it makes zero difference to the pick up, which was the context you based your tonal claims on.
