Open Super Stock tractor pulling at Benson NC May 2016

The “Super Stock Open” class generates more power than any NTPA “stock” division. From their tube frame component chassis to their highly modified engine, these aren’t your granddad’s John Deere, Case IH, or various other brand models found in agriculture - hardly! These machines can create more than 5,000 horsepower weighing 8,000 lbs. In the “Open” division, most of the engines have been modified to run on methanol fuel, although rarely fans will see a diesel-fueled Super Stock joining in the fray. Unlike all other forms of NTPA “Stock” classes, the alcohol tractors do not blow plumes of black smoke. Not the case. Most fans were in the grandstand side. It's 20 degrees cooler like being under and Sun Setter awning. We do a good job promoting pulls, but this is one we attend. We should do a better job promoting it.

All Photographers are "supposed to be 10 feet back from the wall." I was very cautious to do what was asked of me. I try to play by the rules. And honestly, I am okay with them there. Just don't look back like "Am in the way?", because at that moment in time that you look back, "You are saying you know you are!" We as media staff are not to interfere with the show. We are to chronicle it. No photographer worth his salt has to lean over to get an optimal shot. One of the RFD-TV guys was talking me about what they have to deal with all the time.
