Bekele was just so dominant. A 4 km race at that level should have lots or runners close together at the end. How does Bekele still just drop everybody? He was just so good at running cross country. The 12 km race was never going to be in doubt for him. As an interesting side note, Kipchoge, who would become the greatest marathon runner in history, was 4th in this race and was still only 19 years old!! He had actually beaten Bekele and El Gerrouj in an epic race to win the 5000m at the World Athletics Championships the year before at age 18.
