I agree. I don't know anyone happy about financial challenges and obligations they are having problems meeting - "deadbeat dads" probably aren't much different in that respect. Creating programs to assist them _(finding employment, upgrading skills, etc.)_ would *_COST_* rather than generate money, so from that perspective, it makes sense they decide to penalize them as they do because it does financially benefit the legal system, enriching those who work within it, even though such punitive policies don't directly benefit the children or society as a whole and are counterproductive. But who is going to care since being a "deadbeat dad" paints such negative mental imagery making most immediately just feel contempt toward these individuals because we do not personally know them, their stories or what challenges they might face? Many just default to the logic that they caused their own problems, don't have any real challenges and are mostly irresponsible losers who deserve punishment rather than help.

I feel empathy for this young man, but he knew that his license was suspended before he appeared for his court appearance. I watched the video and saw the look of embarrassment and surprise on his attorney's face. He should have know better than to appear while driving. Driving is considered a privilege and not a legal requirement. If you do not pay child support then that privilege is taken away. If you lose your privilege to drive you still have an alternative method to run errands, such as public or private transportation. I hope he gets this resolved.

He resolved the issue. He paid what the court ordered and the court reinstated his license. What the court *didn't do* is send that information to the appropriate agencies. And there is no public transportation in the US so stop with that bs. When I lived in Germany, I could catch a city train or bus within 15 minutes pretty much all day, and everything I needed was within walking distance. To function in the US, you need to be able to drive. He was taking his wife to the doctor. Depending on her condition, it might not be practical, possible, or safe to have her walk 50 feet.

There is a process. When your license is suspended, then you resolve the reason for the suspension, you are given paperwork to take to the DMV and apply for a license reissue. It is not automatic. His lawyer should have given him instructions. As for being a member of the church and now being embarrassed, I do not think that is worse than being a deadbeat dad, which got your license suspended in the first place. Take care of your business, sir.

This happened to me before, I paid a fine and they never put the fine on record and so I got a warrant put out for me and next thing you know the police came busting my door down. All the more reason to support your kids to begin with so you don’t get into this mess. Seems like a great incentive to me. It shouldn’t be convenient for anyone to not take care of their responsibilities.

Quick side rant: I’m a 41 year old man who’s had full custody of his son from an emergency order when my son was only 2 years old. He’s 21 now and his mother is probably in the neighborhood of 17k in child support rears. That may sound like a lot but she was only ever ordered to pay $125/mo. Just to give you an idea of how long she’s thumbed her nose at the courts. ANYWAYS! the CSEA here in Cuyahoga County Ohio simply won’t get off their ass and hold her accountable. No court summons, no jail and DEFINITELY no license suspension ha ha ha..

This Monday morning in Judge Simpson's Court, a defendant made EVERYONE in the courtroom laugh out loud. The defendant prefaced his main comment with something about avoiding his case going viral. Then, he promised Judge Simpson he would not be trying to sell the Judge's signature on eBay. After the laughter subsided, Judge Simpson announced he would never sign anything again. More laughter.

Public defender couldn't find this info out huh? It's called, pretext representation, because it's Constitutionally required. But this shows, public defenders don't truly work for the poor. Just go through the motions. Now he's in jail. Sounds like he has a case against "friends" of the court and the public defenders office.
