Biffy Clyro (Simon Neil's band) don't really scream like this anymore. They do now and then, they do live, but if you want to hear stuff like that you'd have to go back to their first 3 albums which are from 2001-2004 so are way back in their archives. But still one of the most underrated bands out of the UK. They can do it all. Newest songs: End Of is good. Going back to say Jaggy Snake is great and qwerky. Really hard to pick a song to start with when they're 8 studio albums in FYI they do a lot of radio friendly anthem pop rock so their top tracks will be them songs (still good though)

I think the meaning/association for jackals might be of opportunists, scavengers, people looking to prey upon the weakness of others. There's a lot of religious language in the song too (though that's not uncommon at all for Architects).

My interpretation of the jackal line was that the jackals (Government) are cunning and will strike under the cover of night/secrecy while everyone is sleeping or unaware. It reminded me of the song "Satellite" by Rise Against, in which they sing: "That's why we stick to your game plans and party lives, but at night we're conspiring by candlelight"

I feel like you guys missed the feature a little bit haha. Simon comes into the song at the 2:30 mark and he sings the bridge part. He comes in at the "Long live the king that's not listening, No time for rats in the gutter, Snakes coiling, but we're signaling" part and then also does the screaming breakdown part before Sam comes back in with the chorus!

Sometimes, it feels weird when people who have listened to these bands for over a year or so, can't tell when a different vocal hits. I mean, I only started listening to Architects back in March, haven't heard a single Biffy Clyro song, don't even consider myself fully metal yet, and yet Simon's feature was clear as day, along with "jackals".

@@advaitpetiwale9596 I got the impression that they realized that Simon was singing the bridge, but it took them a second to realize it was still him when he was screaming. Which is fair. Simon doesn't scream as much and they most likely aren't used to hearing it.

I think it's about organised religion. "Long live the king who never listens" as in we are praying to a God that never helps us. "Nobody's proving me wrong they're just singing hallelujah" as in they never listen to the other side. "The jackals live by the candlelight" jackals are a carnivore so it probably refers to the moneyhungry and criminal sides of the church

Not sure if anyone has already clarified this, but jackals are generally considered bad omens. In old folklore when they show up it’s a sign of bad things to come. You can also call someone or something a jackal if it has selfish or otherwise unsavory intentions. In the case of this song, the imagery of jackals is clearly referring to the government. Jackals are also used in Egyptian hieroglyphics and imagery, but I don’t think they have anything to do with Architects’ use of jackals in this song, haha.
