Wyman Meinzer, Texas Photographer: Under One Fence -- The Waggoner Ranch

Wyman Meinzer, Texas state photographer, spoke at the Noble Foundation's Profiles and Perspectives series on Feb. 7, 2013. He showed and told stories about photos he created for the book "Under One Fence -- The Waggoner Ranch Legacy."
The Waggoner Ranch encompasses approximately 535.000 acres and is Texas' largest ranch operating under one fence. The historic property, located south of Vernon, Texas, was established in 1849 by Dan Waggoner and has been in continuous operation since. Meinzer's project to document the landscape, livestock, wildlife and workforce of the ranch offers a rare public glimpse into the world of the Waggoner.
With more than 30 years of professional photography experience, Meinzer has won many awards for his work and his images have appeared on more than 250 magazine covers as well as numerous book covers. He was named the official State Photographer of Texas in 1997 by the Texas State Legislature and then Gov. George W. Bush. Learn more about the artist and his work at www.wymanmeinze....

Love this! I spent many summers on the Waggoner. My Grandfather, Heavy Nethery, was a foreman and he lived in the little rock house just inside the Sachueista Gate. My Dad was raised on the ranch and went to work as a welder (building pipe fence) at age 14. Great work, sir. Brings back great memories.

I swear, this is about the best thing I've seen in ages. The quality of the photography is equivalent to any major publishing magazine I've ever seen. The Man has really good speaking voice. He tells you a story that lures right into the ranch itself. If he was wearing a Cowboy hat you'd think he just rode in. Really appreciate real Texas history.

I own the state of alaska svalbard and antartica i can always bring ice bergs over to restock the waters after they have been purified and all bacteria from the ice killed off that will refill the lake and the water tanks i could probably just bring in water from alaska since the ranch ie texas should be in alaska somewhere so i heard for it should be an island but thats neither here nor there its jsut some watwr ideas but besides that i wanna inow what was under the lake bwfore restocking could be oild silver golf copper who knows so i want to resurvey the ranch and see what minerals are around and maybe raisw the oil export price gotta find out its revenue and what work do the towns need for their mine also their monies come to me and from me to the government anyways not your problem u just make book

I grew up with a photographer Father, who did the same type of photography. Mr. Meinzer talks about what it took to get some of his pictures and I remember my Mother working alongside my Dad to accomplish the look he wanted. I remember at a very young age, before dawn, freezing and waiting for the beginning of branding. Thank you Mr. Meinzer for bringing back the memories with your beautiful photographs and great descriptions.
