We were in Vegas when Paris opened. We got to look around the place during the day while it was still in soft opening mode. They let people go up to the Eiffel Tower’s observation deck for free, which we did. We were standing on the pedestrian bridge between NYNY and MGM when the official grand opening happened. They shot off fireworks and traffic on Las Vegas Blvd was at a standstill

The Vital Vegas article on the McD's closing at The D said it was a magnet for vagrants etc that the corporate owned store won't kick out and it's a gateway for them to get into the casino too. A person could just hang out in there and wouldn't have to leave as long as they had money. Makes sense to me as it sometimes looked like a homeless encampment. Now the space will be under the control of the casino.

That’s where I first moved to NV some 17 years ago (from the Portland, OR area…which I could see at the time was becoming a train wreck politically/socially/economically, and it would be hard for anybody to prove me wrong about that at this point!!!, the solution for me at the time was to move to some down-to-earth place west of the Rockies where I could grasp once again onto “Small Town USA”/“hard-working-America”!!! Fallon fit that bill for a couple years for me before moving onto other areas of NV since, including LV since 2019). Anyway, Stockmans was one of the “classiest” places in town (relatively speaking, of course, in such a “down-to-earth-community”), and was one of the only “classy-enough-to-be-“date-night-capable” places” in town…which was important for my marriage and a bunch of other “relationships” I knew of in that town. So I’m happy that they’re thriving and “stepping up”!!! If anyplace in America and specifically NV that deserves to thrive in every way, it’s frickin’ Fallon, NV, baby!!! (Oh, and the military there? It’s NOT an Air Force Base…It’s FALLON NAVAL AIR STATION, baby!!! HOME OF “TOP GUN”!!!)

It IS sad that the D’s McDonalds is closed…I’ve had many cheap eats at that place, along with the hotdogs at Mermaids and the goofy corner gift shop that had their dog cooker way in the back. That’s some all American cuisine! At least we will still have White Castle…which is a long-standing guilty pleasure of mine..will always just be a gal from Chicago looking for lunch!!💕

I didnt have any issues at NY NY new registration desk checking in at around 7pm on a Sunday. Had Spa suite there and it was a great room! Also stayed at Harrahs and that room was very blah. Had huge issue using comps at Venetian if you are not a guest. The spa and rewards and guest services didn't know how to process a comp if you didnt stay there. Cost me hours dealing with it. Really got a nickle and dimeing feel from Venetian. Also was at MGM Grand and room wasnt great, which surprised me. Had a huge issue almost getting in a wreck coming back from seeing Penn and Teller with my kid for his birthday. MGM is funnelling traffic before and after concerts in a way that pretty much blocks any access to their parking garage. And had no metering to keep people from hitting each other. Something I really hope they address as I so far havent had anyone really get back to me on it (not Platinum desk manager or casino host). I try not to complain about little stuff, but if it us safety involving my kids I want to see something done. I love MGM properties (am platinum), but has me thinking about moving my upcoming stay to Fountaine Bleu and cancelling Cosmo if they are not going to address this.

I just came from staying at New York New York this past Labor day weekend staying Sunday until Tuesday. I did see the small check in desk. I was shocked. Didn't know they had closed the main one. I'm a MGM Gold rewards member but still had my Platinum card and was able to use that across from the new check-in at the VIP check-in lol They just looked that it was Platinum and didn't check the date which shows expired lol I lucked out and bypassed having to use the new check-in area. Never seen a big line at the new check-in when I was there though.

Monorail fire, what the hell. Seattle was built for the world fail in 1962 and it still running... Vegas so missed the mark on underbuilding theirs... could have been great!

Oh, the Seattle monorail has had multiple issues over the years - yes, including a fire - the most recent being when the two trains sideswiped each other on a section of track where only one was supposed to run at a time. All train systems (and cars, and planes, and bicycles) have problems once in a while. That said, yes, the boat was sorely missed in not locating the LV monorail better - having to walk way out back of the casinos to take the thing is what killed it.

The McDonald’s inside the Plaza also closed late last year. We’ve stayed at the Plaza a few times this year and they have not added any other quick bite eating options. So, what does a casino do when they aren’t sure what’s going to replace a quick bite eating option? Add a row of slot machines! 🤣 This is what’s been sitting the place of where the McDonalds used to be. That random row of slot machines look way out of place, and still can’t believe they haven’t replaced the McDonald’s with something else yet.

Great show guys! I think the reason there were less USC fans is that they know Vegas is terribly crowded on holidays, and didn't want to deal with holiday traffic on the 15. LSU fans flew anyway, and travel well, especially as Vegas is a bigger novelty for them.

They keep saying there's no replacement parts. Well, where does Disney get theirs from? Our Monorail is the Mark6 Disneyland is the Mark7 and WDW is running the Mark5. That one at WDW has been running since the early 80s and Disney finds parts. The math ain't mathin

I don’t think it is parts but they are just running them until end of life. They are facing the same decision Disney is. At some point they need to be replaced and the cost to engineer is hefty. Maybe they could share the costs. Disney World has recently refurbished the old trains as well which could mean end of life could be a decade or two off. The other thing about it is the LVCVA. They own it and if/when Vegas Loop gets fully up and running I wouldn’t expect them to continue to operate it.

I’m with Mark - so sad McDonald’s is gone. As a fanatic of McDonald’s Diet Coke, this is heartbreaking. Agree with other commenters who say they wanted to keep the vagrants out of the casino. Have seen lots of comments on Downton Vegas Facebook groups about the perceived uptick in seedy characters. Lots saying Golden Nugget isn’t doing enough to keep certain people out and general sense that safety is a concern.

The sad thing about MGM having a really good check-in app is that it makes doing the $20/50/100 sandwich trick less appealing. I guess you can still wait in line and try it...but no guarantee it will work. Before Covid I stayed at the Aria (comped regular room)...I put $50 in the sandwich and got a nice corner suite on a high floor. It was cool seeing a helicopter fly at eye level right by the room!

Great shows guys. Iowa State on the big screen at Suncoast. Good job Suncoast. That's my alma matter. Also, $10 3:2 double deck at both Suncoast and Rampart. The Rio looks real nice, and the rooms in Masquerade tower are some of the biggest in Vegas, with floor to ceiling windows. I think you guys hit the point about McDonalds without realizing it, their cheap breakfast is cannibalizing the casino restaurant breakfast. Knowing casinos like I do, this is likely a move to redirect the breakfast cash! See you on the next one!
