The South African Songbook is a musical celebration of South African democracy, 25 years after apartheid's end. With special guests Nonhlanhla Kheswa, Melanie Scholtz, Vuyo Sotashe, McCoy Mrubata, Nduduzo Makhathini and Thandi Ntuli.

A soulful blend of South African and American jazz. Power to Mr Wynton Marsalis and these great musicians... past and present! The concert evokes fond memories of one's youthful defiance in the face of apartheid South Africa.

There is great jazz work being carried out by South Africans over the years of apartheid hardship which has been a beacon of hope to many South Africans to the extent that it has been recognized by such a great musician, Winston Marsalis and his co musicians from Lincoln. This will inspire a lot of young South Africans to take Jazz with the seriousness it deserves. In hard times jazz becomes a religion that uplifts the spirits of those who are in pain. lt brings joy and happiness in the midst of whatever struggle. Thank you Mr Marsalis and you Lincoln big band.

Thanks Winton for honouring the black young artists/musicians of South Africa. There's a lot of music in South Africa that's not been thoroughly explored, most of it influenced by black music in America. There's also traditional rural influenced music that's never been heard in the world. I home more is coming for this series in the Lincoln Jazz Centre.

Thanks to you Mr. Wynton Marsalis and Carlos and Chris! For putting on such a wonderful Concert from A lot of Black American Africans! This is truly a very well Put together Performance! Look at where we as human beings are going!! Hallelujah!

This is a wornderful concert and the closing number, a tribute to HUGH MASEKELA is sensational and so joyous and a fitting Tribute to a great artist and human being and a great friend of mine . The JLCO is just phenomenal ; hearing this concert that Wynton put together with his wonderful arrangers and soloists is uplifting and inspiring . THANK YOU < THANK YOU

A treasure indeed, incredible evening.. so much and so many shared.. many many people noted and played, spoke and spoken word too.. ♥️ 25 years after apartheid ended.. one song towards the beginning.. “A musical to an urgent need for healing” Many names given in the description 💚💛♥️

This was amazing!!! I was a little tired and feeling worn out with so much going on but this put me back on track ❤ I am so looking forward to seeing you and your orchestra. I will get there. I listen to your music quite often 😊.
