Rosé, the silver-haired singer, is portraying Persephone, daughter of Zeus in the beginning. According to Greek mythology Persephone was out gathering flowers when Hades, God of the Underworld, saw her and dragged her down to the Underworld to be his wife. You see her alternating between being pristine, surrounded by flowers, and how she became, grey and dirty, looking up at a hole from the dark Underworld. She is angry and wishing she could get back at him, which is where the first drop comes in. (by the way she was eventually allowed to return to the surface for part of the year, which is where Spring and Summer came from!) The message in the last scene was that they, like the Trojan Horse story, are going to emerge and surprise the entire world with their music. The video was shot in May, during covid. They filmed over five days and nights, and as they have their own in-house studio and production facility the post-production is pretty quick. Also, as for the visuals, don’t think about it in a literal way, think about it in symbolic ways and what kind of vibe does it gives you with the songs. For example, the slow and melodic part of the song give me a little sad vibe because that part of the song is about end of relationship. As for the chorus, the chorus is powerful. That make sense the chorus part is all about making a bounce back and becoming stronger as a person. The best example is the trojan horse which is shown at the end of this music video. Trojan horse symbolize victory. When they said "it's a bird, it's a plane", they referring to the Superman comic. Usually, Superman wins the fight. So basically, these ladies are warning people do not piss them off. 😀

The visuals you see are based on classical greek. There's a duality of the visuals and how the lyrics can be viewed. Straight forward the lyrics are about any relationship with moments of power shifting and they're alluding to a broken relationship and how the person who left ends up regretting that while the one left behind finds much better. Visually it opens with classical greek theater with a deus ex machina where the god is lowered and announces the moral of the play. There's also a connection to persephone who was kidnapped by hades the god of the underworld and the agreement was she would be allowed back above for 6 months each year for her hand in marriage. Hence the theme of the changing seasons. Persephone advocates for the wife of orpheus to be returned to the land of the living because she was so moved by his voice which is conveyed by the lyrics and visuals of looking up from the bottom. Lisa is seen with a falcon in one scene then in the break she has a falconer's glove symbolizing pheme the roman goddess of rumor fame and infamy. Shes described as small and fearfull at first then grows larger and stronger til she fills up the sky. This describes blackpink and their growth while fighting their haters as they're filling up the sky...look up in the sky it's a bird (the wings on the set) it's a plane. Blackpink is the biggest girl group on the planet and they've broken every youtube record with this release. A fyi, you should turn on the subtitles with any kpop mv. Also wanted you to know your korean food mukbang was in the group of reactions I saw when I first got into kpop. So when watching a kpop mv there's definitely more subtext to the visuals than what you'd think. Enjoyed this.👍🌝
