Wow that’s a trip down memory lane - I am an ex wood house park lad also born in 1954, wasn’t many I didn’t recognise. Remember the old signboard at the entrance to civic centre across from golden Garter or the bowling alley as it was for some time.. we used to sit inside the sign playing truant . Also remembering Minsterey parade CoOp where Ena Sharples got filmed being caught shop lifting some bacon in Coronation Street. The off licence where you could buy a three penny loose woodbine ciggy. Saw the old scout but on Portway . Has anyone else noticed how many ex wythenshawe people you meet over seas ? I reckon it’s because we all couldn’t wait to get out of the place. . Thanks for the memories

I still live here. I miss the old days though. Even though it's a tough place to grow up, and live in, I still love it. The old pubs that have gone, the old buildings, and the people that have left, I really miss.

This actually made me very sad - I have moved away, but still come back to Wythie to visit family & friends & I remember the old shops etc. I'm 39, so most footage was before my time, but I always remember my Grandparents used to say "I remember when all this were fields" - I now I can see what they meant. Shame Wythie has gone the way it has - I do miss the olden days.

Whythy was the place for a great childhood, we lived on Ravenscar cresent. good happy memories, playing at Styal and the swinging bridge over the Bollin. minsterley Parade for the shopping with my mam, it was like a day out. 1951-1962 then to Fallowfield, it seemed dark and dismal compared to Wythenshawe.

I was born on Cornishway & had a few mates who lived on Ravenscar. Do you remember the 103 chippie? Best in the area & they sold Hollands pies 👌😋. Do you remember the plane crash at the top of Shadowmoss Road? Was very sad.

Born in 1953, lived on Panfield road which was opposite St John's church on Woodhouse Lane ( St John's church now gone) used to play footy on the fields behind the Benchill pub and Hollyhedge shops. remember most if not all of the footage. Moss Nook C. A. club, first heard Motown there in the 60's and have loved it ever since. Went to Haveley Hey Infants and Junior school and whilst there we used to go Sharston baths to learn to swim and get your free pass, when you could do what was required to get one. So in the school holidays the baths was my second home. We used to play on Greenwood fields and in the the summer, with a bottle of corporation pop and a bag full of pinched apples, me and my mates would go for walks starting at Greenwood fields and following them up past Ringway and on to Castle mills. If we couldn't trick our way into the open air baths there, we used to swimming in the river Bollin. Fantastic memories growing up there, sad to to see it go down hill.

Good selection of pics.. Lived Glazebury Drive in flats top of Hall Lane near St. Martin's Church from 1950 to 1956 then we moved to Roundthorn Road. The Roundthorn Industrial Estate was still mainly farmland, lots of orchards to raid! Baguley Station was still in use and had a large coal yard with coal being delivered by steam train. Used to cycle to a large field off Butcher Lane to watch the steam trains clanking past, No gates, no fencing, you literally stood at the side of the tracks. No health and safety then. Was a Friday night delivery boy at the Co-op on Greenbrow Parade, a Saturday morning delivery boy at Co-op butchers on Hall Lane, and used to be a paper boy morning and evening at Rocca's newsagents, also on Hall Lane. All theses during the same period, so why was I always broke? A lot has changed over the years, but the Metrolink tram system has changed Wythenshawe more than any previous developments..

ahhh the metrolink tram system...the big white elephant of wythenshawe lol i dont think ive ever seen a carriage full since the first day it opened and were offering complimentary free rides to wythenshawe residents since then it seems to be pretty empty i dont really know anyone around here in benchill who uses it..metrolink argue its virtually silent but try living next to the line on hollyhedge even with windows shut you can here it..but unfortunately i guess its here to stay..i personally think it hasnt advantaged wythenshawe in any way atall :(

I believe those post-'80s tram-networks were just another scam to be dumped on local ratepayers. The latest scam is the 'property development' one through which authorities are borrowing money to hand it to 'developers' and those authorities are being bankrupted as a result. Read about the mess created by the solar-farm scam that landed tiny Thurrock (in Essex) with an estimated billion pounds of unrecoverable debt after the "developer" nought jets and mansions with the money they gave him.

I lived in Woodhouse Park between 1979 and 1990. I have no family or connections there now, but I'll always have fond memories of my flat (where I always felt safe and secure) and I loved living so close to the airport. Wythenshawe was developed as a garden city with wide open green spaces, decent family houses with large gardens. It shouldn't have been allowed to become run down as it has in some parts. It has such potential. I think it's just too big.

@Sharston Baths Silver Birch is near the forum, but I remember my first date I took a girl INSIDE the Forum where they had 2 SEPERATE bars.one was next to the theatre where they would ring the bell to tell the audience the second half of the show was about to start. And the other bar was more to where the back exit is now. I remember I bought my first date a lager and I had one to, and when I went back to sit down all you could hear was a big rip , yep I split my pants ! Talking of the theatre I actually starred in the play called "TALENT" it was written by and starred Victoria Wood, first hundreds had to pass an audition in town then I got told I made it through to the actual show, it wasn't rehearsed or anything it was sort of based round a talent show. I remember being a bit chuffed because all my family had to come and pay for tickets to get in .i got to the final. It was a great night. That was the first or second time I sang in front of an audience . It gave me the bug and had many years doing clubs which I made a few quid from. If anyone remembers the old SHARSTON labour club ? I remember I got booked with the late Bernard Manning and couldn't believe my eyes as a week before the show there were posters with Bernard Manning on it stuck everywhere in SHARSTON with "WYTHENSHAWES OWN PAUL ROGERS! Written in big letters . They didn't stay up long as all my family nicked them for prosperity ha! Good old days!
