I told my mum I wanted to go on X Factor & be a singer when I was like, 15. She had to let me know gently that I wasn’t good enough. I’m so glad she did so I didn’t embarrass myself 😭😭

Thing is, 2000's TV was built on poking fun at people, hopeless untalented people got thrown under the bus in the name of entertainment. a lot of them probably had undiagnosed mental issues. But the producers and production team knew that and took advantage of it. I've seen ex contestants talk about how they would be provoked into funny reactions off camera (locked in rooms without AC or water, told to change their entire act before going out) etc. It's an entertainment show, not a talent show. Super cruel when you start looking into it.

Talent shows like this are evil. Remember the Pink lookalike, Zoe Alexander? They treated her awfully and set her up. She is very down to earth and seems smart when you watch her KZbin channel. The show was awful.

@@RevPGS Of course they edit the show, but you really can't edit something like that to make the mental bitch look good. She was not a good singer, not the worst in the world but definitely still bad. I know they rig it so the best singer always comes second (because they don't need the Christmas record deal they'll stand the test of time on their own merit whereas if you also own the person getting the publicity for the Christmas number 1 then you can double dip the takings) but there's no incentive for them to just bin off someone who stands a chance of winning in the audition just to "make Simon Cowell look good" look at Susan Boyle for example, would have been possible to autotune her to make her sound bad, could have ripped into her and kicked her out at the first hurdle, however they didn't, because they still have to follow UK broadcasting and competition laws. But you're saying she was totally sane and just killed herself because of being edited out of context, which by definition would mean you aren't sane. There is a prize for winning, UK competition law is very strict you couldn't advertise a prize and then just not award one, they'd have a lawsuit immediately and no amount of lawyers can save you from just breaking the exact letter of the law without even trying to pretend.

For those curious about Zoe Alexander, production twisted everything from her original audition to airing the episode by telling her what to sing, how to act and what to say. They edited the footage to make her look worse and while her actions should not be condoned, the continued manipulation and stress caused by production caused her emotional breakdown. I would highly recommend watching a video about what happened to her as this happens to a LOT of X Factor contestants, I never recommend applying.

I completely forgot about the angry mother in law until now. I wish they showed more of her. She really laid into Simon, then she said “I don’t know why women throw themselves at him. He’s not even good looking. He doesn’t even have his own teeth!” 😂 If I recall correctly, her name was Edna. They brought her back for the final to introduce the “best of the worst” acts, and the crowd were chanting “Edna! Edna!” They loved her.

I don't mean to be a downer but Ariel did have mental issues that were unresolved. She ended up taking her own life years later and apparently family said she never got over her portrayal on x factor

She was actually very good in her profession. She worked with a fair few rock singers. She did struggle with mental health (have never seen anything suggesting she did drugs but if she did... so what?) She cut her throat in her bed apparently

"Who tells these people they can sing?" The producers of the show who have put them through several rounds of unreleased auditions to get to this point? I remember doing it as a dare when I was 14. They made thousands of us queue up at Old Trafford for around 8 hours in the freezing cold, cheering for empty cars that were supposed to have judges in them, when you're finally seen it's by a telly producer (of which there are around 30), and you're separated from the audition next to you by a bit of cloth so it's an absolute din of terrible crooning. They listen to about fifteen seconds of you and decide if you'd be entertaining to watch on telly, you'll then make it through to another date where they do the same thing again twice more before the "first audition". These people have been told by the producers of the show three separate times they're good enough for the show.

I've seen older clips where it's pretty clear the constentants genuinely have special needs, but it's edited to look like they're just quirky or 0dd or cr@zy but they literally have special needs ..then alot of the clips are edited drastically using special effects to make it look like ppl doing thing they aren't.. ppl have broken down the zoe Alexander clip n they editing in her dad walking on stage with her, edited her face to look more angry , even edited her throwing a mic , let alone the manipulation, it's not these ppls family's telling them they're amazing, it's the producers, n ofc alot of these ppl have mental health issues..bocz of that n the show many have ,what we say un-aliv3d themselves
