To be fair, Beast wasn't siding with the inhumans during that period. He just wanted to avoid conflict and try to problem solve; Medusa even claimed that had the X-Men came to them about the terrigen mist & how it had negative effects on mutants, that she and the other inhumans would have helped them sooner.

Beast ended up being right while Storm seemed ashamed with herself with the sacrifice Medusa made which could have perhaps been avoided since Inhumans have as much right to exist as mutants.

Their is a reason why beast turn bad I think he has PTSD I will break it down Marvel writer said so in interview After present beast brought original X-men to our timeline When they went back ,a X-men one shot came out in December original X-men Phoenix from an alternate universe came to 616 pasts and recruit the 5 X-men And restore their memories so all the trauma came back and even worse Once their memory was blank again . Remember kid cable brought the X-men back into the pasts Past Jean set a timer where present X-men would remember everything they went through. So when it happen all of them was fine except beast he suffer from PTSD Saw to many things that happen back and forth so that’s how evil beast was born

Beast didn't "side" with the Inhumans. He was working with them to find out how make the terrigen cloud harmless for the mutants and to try to keep the peace between the two groups. When it was discovered the cloud would eventually cover the entire earth and couldn't be fixed he went to tell the X-Men first and Emma convinced everyone he couldn't be trusted and locked him up (leading to IvX). The most you could say about his actions then would be him not popping up to check on his fellow X-Men/mutants during their struggle and not telling both teams about the terrigen cloud being incurable to prevent IvX (since Medusa immediately destroyed the cloud when she found out at the end of that event). It's strange how working with the Inhumans for peace is considered crime to the X-Men, but siding with the Avengers during AvX or being a liaison to Hydra during secret empire isn't even mentioned.

I mean, on the AvX side Wolverine sided with the Avengers and then the rest of the X-Men sided with the Avengers to beat the Phoenix Five (so the X-Men kinda let them slide since they were kinda right)

To be completely fair about Beast’s descent into darkness, not all the things that people bring up were conscious unscrupulous acts (e.g., the MGH thing was something he prototyped and used for his own noble ends before the existence of it led to the street drug without him). Most of his questionable history involved some stretch of a good intention or greater good, but the biggest departure for people is that they remember "OH my stars and garters" Beast more than anything that showed his darkness (remember his actions with the Illuminati)

I'm glad this storyline is coming to an end. It was a terrible idea to make one of the most beloved, purest and genuine mutants go dark. I mean, we ALREADY have a Dark Beast out there. Hell, maybe our Hank will ultimately become that Dark Beast from the alternate timeline. Speaking of time, I'm glad they didn't go the time travel route, but I wonder if this back-up is a bit TOO far back in Hank's history. I guess Hank felt like he needed a reminder of how he was before his slow descent into villany. Perhaps he mused that once he'd done what he set out to do, he would try to revert back to the "stars and garters" version of himself. A little too convenient, perhaps, but Marvel had to see that making 616 Hank McCoy a total megalomaniac proved to be unpopular, and they needed to course-correct. Because, again, we ALREADY have a Dark Beast out there. I kinda just wish Hank would see the error of his ways (maybe through some catastrophic event), and decide he was too extreme in his efforts, denouncing and dismantling everything he'd done, and then go off somewhere until such a time that he could return. But Hank, and the readers, would always know how dangerous he COULD be if he really wanted to. But, he's gone too far. Our Hank McCoy is gone. R.I.P. Dr. Henry Philip McCoy 1963-2024.

@@igitot There’s only really been some surveillance script where Black Tom is upset that people keep calling him Dracula and Juggernaut is getting really mad about that. Honestly, I would’ve used Siryn as a character to do that. Maybe have a story where Blindfold is asking Rogue (who is at the Green Lagoon with Siryn just to check up on her for Polaris. Siryn is on the non alcoholic drinks) about Destiny. Since Blindfold is Destiny’s great Granddaughter biologically and would like to know what it was like growing up with her as a mother. And we have some Siryn asides where she does admit that she knows there’s more going on between Tom and Cain but promised not to say much until Cain was ready.

All of this, what they’ve done to beast is justice, horrifically bad, as turning, magneto, the white queen and Apocalypse into good guys They tried to do that with Scott Summers a while back. That was not too bad, but since that met with a backblast of anger, marble forgot, they even did it. All of this proves that John Byrne and Chris Claremont collaboration are the very thing that made the X-Men what they were. From the comic, all new X-Men, to the conclusion of the Phoenix saga with the final arc of Days of Future’s Past are the only X-Men books anyone ever need to read.

One person's bad writing is another person's attempt at doing something with great emotional stakes that isn't the same re-threading of the status quo; or a new comical, agro, heart-broken, damaged, activist, determined or reformed take. It doesn't mean we'll like every shift in their portrayal when it happens to one of our favorites, but if it's actually consistent with things portrayed in the past (like these issues and this review are reminding those that forgot or didn't know Beast's more questionable past actions) it can't really be called illogical or bad writing.

@@kwamintaylor4247 I don't fault you in the least for not being a fan of it; I think the switch from Beast doing unintentional, negligent, questionable or greater-good 'bad' things to doing literal war crimes was a bit much to accept for a "hero" but I do understand what they were going for. It's a story of ultimate power corrupts ultimately, and Beast was handed Carte Blanche to protect Krakoa. It doesn't narratively hit the same if it's not explored with someone seen as good. Even I don't like heroes all muddied up, but this is at least the same guy who was OK with wiping out alternate Earths that would have collided with their Earth during the Incursions stuff, so I can follow the logic that brought them to this iteration of him. At least they explored this dark turn with a built-in mechanism for him being good again (telegraphed when they first revealed this was the only backup he didn't wipe) that doesn't just require readers to accept he did all of that and then is on the side of angels again.

At times it feels Percy never had a real grasp of the characters at the core. Plus how many clones is Percy going to use? Wolverine clones, beast clones, sabertooth clones? …. I stopped reading x-men from 2009- 2019. Just picked it back up and i was thinking wow Beast was bad all the time i read before 2009? The 1990's beast was a true hero. I was hoping that Beast was just dark beast for AOA era. Poor writing seems to plague this new X-men. Marvel needs to work out who their characters are and what are their backstories. Happy to hear how he went bad and seems logical.

*Who's the real McCoy?* - it's going to be an interesting long term plot line to see whether knowing how he turned out will influence Defender Beast to be better, or if he's fated to turn out the same, and who's going to make it harder for him and others not trustint him. They could also double down and stick it to people who have the more idealized view of Beast, and kill this old version in the very next issue 😅 (or soon after), or have him see the 'logic' in doing exactly what X-Force Beast had been doing.

Apocalypse has done many worse things than Hank and he is an honored elder in the Krakoan age. Almost every mutant seems kind of morally grey these days so a redemption arc of some sort for Beast doesn't even seem like a big stretch.

Wouldn't the backup just be a clone with its own soul and a different person? No one forced him to be the way he turned out. The fact Age of Apocalypse Alter Beast and this one both turned out to be pricks may show that this is his nature when times get tough and this clone would just invalidate the real McCoy. Unless they pull out comic book BS like Beast having been brainwashed all along. Sounds like an effort to fix fickle writing. It would have been better if Alter Beast had character growth and turned to the Blue side.

Would be cool to see a story and or story run were they have all his mess ups in it as well as some new ones... because beast is a very interesting character. He is always stated to be "one of the smartest" but he is always "messing up" and some are undecided weather he is a villain purposly messing up or weather he is making mistakes. It could be a combination of both and maybey he has his own plans, but it is obvious his successes and failures ("or failures") have dictated greatly, as far as the path of the X-Men as anyone else if not more, and I have never heard a content creator state that... His actions thru X-Men history may be as important as Xaviers if they were purposful... And if he isn't a villain or anti-villain maybe he is someone that has an understanding of the maths and scientist but has yet to figure out society (being a beast) and that is part of his problem when he creates something he thinks is going to have an X-effect and instead has a Z-effect.
