As someone who never got beyond a small lathe in a home workshop and who struggled to get 'near enough' dimensions with micrometers, I'm always astonished at the precision attainable with these gigantic automated machines. Very impressive.🙂

It is a dream of mine to someday own my own mini (or medium) manual lathe. I will, someday, but at the moment I just haven't got the space for it, plus I have neighbours that won't appreciate the noise. Someday though... I'm in IT so nothing to do with skilled manual labour but I am fascinated by metalworking nonetheless. No idea why I commented this on your comment, it just made me think of my dream to buy a lathe 😋 and a CNC... And a mill... And.....

@10:22 its all good and dandy until the machine crashes. Ive ran Mazak's at Woodward GOV in Loves Park, IL during My summer break from law school. We would take a blank and turn them into fuel control units for GE and Rolls Royce jet engines. Awesome place to work and learn from. This company used to have classroom outside the main factory for students to learn how to use read blue prints to use micrometers and calipers to running machines before CNC's were invented like during WWII they had their own dentist doctor's office inside and all the men had to wear bow ties

I had 5 old 1950's Fellows shapers that just kept running. They were built So much better than the Chinese crap that were cheaper in every way.
