Electrorefining is a process in which materials, usually metals, are purified by means of an electrolytic cell. The anode is the impure metal and the cathode is a very pure sample of the metal.

So, anodes then go into electrolysis bath?
@ryandavis75932 жыл бұрын
Yes. There anodes and cathode sheets. The impurities and rare metals fall to the bottom in a slurry that is then refined as well. The copper collected on the cathodes is stripped off and is 99.99 percent pure. These are surprisingly heavy. I got to see these procedures at Phelps Dodge in El Paso Texas in the mid 1980s as a teenager. They would never let anyone visit today without being an investor or industry professional much less a teenager. I feel very fortunate to have been allowed to see this great achievement in person.
