Back when I was a kid I was lucky enough to have the privilege of playing the original 6 person arcade cabinet of this with my friends. I will never forget how much fun this game was with me and the boys. Seeing this really reminded me of how fun my childhood was going to arcades back in the early 90's.

This was technically the first video game with wide screen support. They did it by placing 2 screens next to each other.

X-Men was amongst the last in the long line of 2D scrolling beat 'em ups that had assailed arcades since 1984's King Fu Master, and as such stands as one of the finest examples of the genre before it gave way to the one-on-one fighting game (though scrolling beat 'em ups would attempt a 3D comeback some years later with titles like Fighting Force and the Bouncer).

@@Seven71987, Yes. The 6-player version of X-Men came out first in March 1992. Then, the 4-player version and 2 player version came out 2 months later in May of the same year. I thought the Crime Fighters, TMNT, TMNT: Turtles in Time, Punk Shot, The Simpsons, Vendetta, Sunset Riders, this game, G.I. Joe, Bucky O'Hare, Mystic Warriors, Wild West C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa, Metamorphic Force, and Run and Gun arcade games were known for having 4 players at once at a time. Here comes 6 player X-Men!

The (now bygone) Northwest Plaza shopping mall in Saint Ann, Missouri had a Tilt arcade with a six-player X-Men stand-up, and I was lucky enough to live about ten minutes away in Hazelwood. I used to go down there _all the time_ and play the blue blazes out of X-Men, as well as Tilt's other multi-player co-ops like Gain Ground, Quartet, Cadash, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and War: Final Assault. (Oddly enough, that Tilt never had the Granddaddy of four-player arcade games: Gauntlet or Gauntlet II.) And I was self-conscious about blocking the coin slots with my body, so I mained Dazzler and secondaried Cyclops whenever another player was already on Dazzler. And many a pick-up X-Men team of random players was enjoyed by all; we even managed to fill up _all six_ slots once or twice. Good times. Good, _good_ times!

@@susanfit47 Counter-question: How many of those are _single units_ and how many of those are just LAN-style linkable units? Big difference there. I notice that most of the games on your big, long list there are _racing_ games, which typically come in Cockpit cabinets as well as Stand-Up cabinets. That same Tilt arcade also had an eight-player Daytona game set up later down the road, but it wasn't a single unit; it was _eight_ single units, all of them Cockpits and all of them hooked up together...not so difficult for the arcade staff to move around, as long as they separate the units first. No rubbing shoulders with other players to get at your own controls, neither...not so fun for the "no touchy-feely" sorts. As for "Right. Let me ask you this question again," I pored through this thread again. You *_didn't ask_* that question even once before I commented. So what's this "again" jazz, and why is your tone suddenly so contentious?

How are you emulating this? I would love to be able to set it up for 6 players. I’m assuming it’s ps3 emulator ?
@thearcadeinsane4 жыл бұрын
No, it's not PS3. It's MAME version 0.222, Windows PC emulator. This rom, xmen, has several clone roms with it, 4 players, 2 players, 6 players, etc. The screen is much wide, 2 4:3 screens are needed, otherwise, if you want to emulate in 1 monitor, it will be wide and a thin line would come in the middle of the screen. You can check my video, a thin line is there in the middle.
